View Full Version : What Site's Do You Buy From?
Well this weekend i decided to buy some DVD's off the web this is a first for me.
I looked around at many Sites including
Links removed - Bap
and many more..
Till i was told about Link removed - BapI had a look and found the site to be very good and not that pricey.
And a bonus that it took Solo as this is all i have as i am only a student.
I ordered Gone In 60 Seconds and
Me, Myself and Irene.
Now, i cant wait for them to arrive, oh and its free delivery aswell.:)
So what other sites am i missing out on?
The only thing is as i mentioned i can only pay with Solo.
So any idea's?

http://www.gameplay.com
I was wonderin how long it would be before someone mentioned that.
Well as much as i like gameplay an all. There are alot more cheaper sites.
In actuality if you check shopsmart and kelkoo (i have) you will see prices @ GP are very competitive
I checked a dozen or so prices and they were at least as cheap as any other DVD supplier. unfortunately play247 undercut GP by £1 each time. But I think an extra quid is a small price to pay for supporting WP :E
Oh and bapapapa shouldn't those other sites pimped above me edited out?

Clipper, I thought about it, but Amazon & Blackstar are way expensive. (esp. Amazon with the shipping charge) Makes Gameplay look cheap. :D
Should think Play is OK 'cos they sell R1.
The titles Denham has ordered are R1 anyway.

Please refrain from posting links to other sites that may harm the sales of Gameplay please chaps.
Run along now, there's good boys. :D
Sorry did'nt relise you were not allowed to make links to other sites.
And Gameplay is still one of my main options i was just wonderin where other people bought from.
Sorry...

No problem.
You're best option would be to get a proper CC and import from the US/Canada, a bit difficult I know with you being oh so young. ;(
Check out http://www.dvdpricesearch.com (set your prefs to UK) for the best R1 prices and prepare to be amazed. :D
Thank You very much:)
Im having a look now...
Thanks for your help.
errr, i can't see anything in the moderator rules that say no links to competitors websites! But i do kinda see some rules about about not flaunting power,
1. Moderators should not flaunt or abuse their privileges. They should not
close or delete threads which aren't covered in the guidelines so kindly don't, it makes gameplay look a bit too unfriendly and uncompetative, i personally wouldn't have anything to do with gameplay if they did start telling moderators to edit links to perfectly legit competitors websites.
I used to order from play247, but over the last few months they have been fooking up my orders. eg. not processing them when they are in stock or i preorder 3 months before the dvd is out and I still got to wait a week after release because they ran out of stock!! What is the point of preordering if they do that?

Ermm Runesky, so you think say for instance, Play247 if they had a forum, they wouldn't mind people posting links to other sites saying you can get this cheaper from http://www.gameplay.com ? Don't think so.
You are the only one to moan about this and you don't even post here!!
I remember a thread in the DC forum where springheeledjock (a Gameplay employee.) removed links to other sites when people were posting where to buy cheap Dreamcasts.
I seem to remember in the guidelines, something about not posting anything detrimental to Gameplay's business, memory is a bit hazy on that one, but feel free to moan to Velvet or Mut if you feel that strongly about it.

Look's like we won't be seeing you around here anymore then Runesky.

They do charge you a surcharge of sorts. i.e. You will get a slightly reduced exchange rate.
e.g. If the rate on the day is $1.45 you will only get say $1.40 from the credit card company.

Hehe, I wasn't trying to put you off, just telling your CC Co. will charge. I buy 90% of my DVDs from the states, 'cos they are cheaper.

no i mean the base pounds to dollars exchange rate isnt that good for us at the moment.
do u have to pay duty or commission or V.A.T. if u r importing them into UK btw?
Bapapapa

Under 18 quid (inc. P&P) - Not liable for duty.
Over 18 quid (inc. P&P) - Liable for duty, but only if customs get their grubby mitts on them. :)
Some companies are better than others at sneaking DVDs past HMC&E unseen. :D

ah, the old put it in a condom and shove it someone's arse trick usally does the trick. mind u, dvd boxes r a bit awkward. so what happens if customs find an item for which the duty has not been paid?
Bapapapa

Well you ain't gonna get arrested, if that's what you are worried about. Mind you, I don't know what sort of DVDs you're thinking of buying. :naughty: :D
They will just ask the postie to collect the duty from you. Import duty + VAT + Royal Mail admin charge = approx 20% of the total. So if the package costs 100 quid and customs nab it, then the postie will ask you for around 20 quid before handing it over.
Bigger the package, the more likely it is to get collared.

thanx greatly bapapa, note-
1)despite the name of the director being censored for lewd content, i don't believe they r ':naughty:' dvds
2)although i do attend state schooling, i can work out 20% of 100 ;)
mind u one get's the feeling that the amount of effort her majesty's customs service would put into getting 4 quid duty is probably a waste of time. cheers again m8.

 The 20% of 100 example did sound a bit patronising, didn't it. Still, at least it save you from working it out. :D
