No, hear me out. You hear your parents waffling on about shows like the Clangers and the Wombles, but what cult shows have we got that we can reminisce on? The Simpsons, X-Files (even if it is a bit naff lately) and Red Dwarf. At this rate, all three shows will continue for the next century, getting worse and worse all the time. When we're old, what will we have to say 'Ah, those were the days of real telly?' Who's with me? End the Simpsons now!

Not me ! The show is still very funny (when we get new episodes) so why end it for a reason like that we got lots of class show`s that are no longer around , we can talk about them !

Don’t ever speak ill of the dwarf ! What u mean worse and worse ? Series 7 & 8 of the dwarf were great (don’t like the computer made fxs though ). I know some people did not like it cos there was a woman in it and then the rest of the crew but that did not stop it being funny ! The change has done it no harm !
X-FILES ? erm always bo!!ocks

Friggin hell, I wish, it's me that remembers the clangers and the wombles, my parents go on about bill and ben.

Jeez, am I really getting old?

Anyway, no matter what you say, I'm still part of the simpsons generation. I was still at school when I started watching it and I'm even one of they sad peeps that went out and bought the 7" version of Bartdance.:P

listen u gimp the simpsons is great, why end it? its the ultimate show to look back on, because it dealt with current events, family issues, and wasnt just a vacous voyeuristic waste of airtime like shipwrecked or big brother.

plus homer is so funny - who else has a 3-letter catchphrase? D'oh!!!!! NE1 remember that ep when they all came into the room at the end and said their catchphrases then Lisa didnt have 1?

Simpsons : May have been going for nigh on 10 years now, but the quality has not degraded, and has actually got better. For the first few series they were mostly trying to get a good 'style' and they've settled down now. Bart has now taken second place to Homer as the star of the show, which is a really good thing imo.

Red Dwarf : Series 1-3 Brilliant
Red Dwarf : Series 4 Much better
Red Dwarf : Series 5-6 Peaked, and probably the best series of comedy I've ever seen
Red Dwarf : Series 7-8 Utter dross unfortunately.

Its just.... terrible. I also preferred the cardboard spaceships :D

X-Files: I've lost count of what series we're on now, but from the 1st to about the previous series was probably the best 'continous plot' proggy on telly. I wasn't much for the filler episodes (the ones between the conspiracy episodes) but a fair few of them I enjoyed too. Now they've revealed too much about the conspiracy and the players, and killed half of the 'bad guys', they're back to too many 'filler' episodes. Its always a surprise when they come up with a twist though (the bit where we find out it was Krychek who was blackmailing Skinner left me genuinly gob smacked).

X-Files is an incredibly well written series, and from what I've heard it should be back to its former glory (imho) soon, with Mulder being abducted, plus Scullys supposed telepathy (the skeptic with the powers? thats a smart script idea :)).

EDIT: Dang, my diseased brain can't remember how to spell

But you don't understand! If we don't end it soon, our children will start watching it, and then we can't say 'Aaah, you young 'uns don't know real telly!' Think about all the times that your parents/grandparents said that. I'm not saying these programs are bad, but if they continue, they'll probably go the way of the X-files.

The x-files was great, is great and always will be great.

and as for the simpsons, theve said that thell stop making the show when it goes downhill but at the moment its still popular and still reaching a high standered.

I agree. After too long the programmes will become old and stale, assuming it hasn't happened already (South Park managed it after the first series).

What dogsdinner means is that if The Simpsons end we will be able to moan to our grandchildren about 'quality of T.V has fallen' like our grandparents and parents have.He thinks it's our right to be able to moan to the next generation, and we can only do so by ending the Simpsons.

Rubbish plan.

Interestingly the childrens TV programs our parents (and some of us older peeps) consider to be classics had around 10-15 episodes in total (Bill and Ben, Bagpuss etc).

Simple fact is we're not going to see programs like that anymore, not with the way TV has become so commercialised - when a broadcaster spots a ratings winner they'll repeat, commission new series and churn out merchandise like there's no tomorrow.
