Wireplay is to change VERY IMPORTANT NEWS

After recent news of Barrysworld closing and the future of on-line gaming in the balance, Wireplay have decided to opt for a subsciption based service! eeekk I know :)This means paying every month. Cheques payable to =Skunk= :E

Details on how much it will cost and what you will get for your money have not been finalised.

These are the things I know at the moment.

You will be able to connect to Wireplay servers using any ISP.

There will be no 0800 dial up.

There will be a limited amount of places to start with so get your place quick, this means there will be less players on the system so less lag.

Nearley all the current servers will change to subsciption based service.

Clan servers will stay Open.

I know some/most of you will say right BYE BYE WP but MPZ and other gaming services are also thinking of going subscription based and once WP do it the rest will follow, we have a good community here and I'd hate to see it disolve, B4 is out sooo soon and hence the amount of players will go up and the community will grow again :)

I dont think anyone will be surprised by this it's been in the pipeline for god knows how long and had to happen sometime.......I aint leaving Wireplay, it's my home :)

I'd imagine that'll be a lot of players responses as for ahl players well lets face it we dont have much choice, I think at the minute the closest server to the UK after Wireplay is Austrailia or Canada (No joke) and while Im sure the US servers will start to pop up again with Beta4 but even the US adds 100+ to my ping.

This could REALLY hurt ahl at Wireplay though, the bigger games will take it in there stride as there are enough UK players that will be willing to pay to fill the servers. But Wireplay ahl is the most international game I've played on Wireplay with a lot of the player dotted around europe and the states, they might not be willing to pay to connect to a Uk server that knocks there ping up 100 to 156 :p

Oh well guess it had happen and now we just gotta wait and see......

Im am not going to say I am leaving or anything like that, because until they announce prices etc, its all just hearsay. But I will be having a serious think before signing up. The trouble I will have is that I generally play on Barrysworld, Netgames, Jolt and Wireplay. Now if all those were to charge, I would only be willing to pay for one as you can imagine. Trouble is I only use Wireplay for Ahl as my own ISP provides very fast servers for CS, DOD and the other games I play. I also get better pings from Netgames for examples.

People will of course get better pings from different servers. As Qball said, this could really hurt Ahl as it does not have a huge following an risks having the server shut down.

On the risk side I must comment as well. Imagine you pay for Wireplay because you play Ahl. Suddenly Valve release a patch that breaks Ahl, or the server keeps crashing. You are still paying out your money, where currently we just go elsewhere.

I agree that buisnesses have to make money, but if this is the way that game servers are going, it could be expensive for us users. (Sort of back to paying for by the minute for internet usage, if you have broadband).

Again, nothing can be decided until they release the prices and T&C's. My worry would be that if people have to make a choice then they may go were their ping takes them, (ie the best servers are available). And for me the best servers in terms of speed are elsewhere (regardless of the existence of Ahl), which is unfortunate.

I think that's a really silly idea...I mean, with more people getting high speed connections, people are just starting their own servers- often with better speeds than Wireplay cope with.
Nah, as far as I'm concerned this will kill Wireplay. I'm happy with just using the clan servers when I have a game.

Ok, im was to lazy to read it properly.. But Im on a cable, (Almighty ****ed up ISP that givves me just higher ping then my 22.8 modem) so I cant dial ? uhm.. And I connect trough WON all the time, I didnt know you could do different.. =)

Not a comment on the Wireplay buisness, but a round of applause to Qball for posting on the Ahl Message Boards. I think that your hopes for an informed discussion have faded away, as from what I can see you are getting a good kicking :-).

But seriously, well done for the effort even if some of the replies where a little less than useful. Everyone seems to think that you are personally responsible for Wireplays decision.

Thanks reaper I was just curious and I got the response I expected. I conceded earlier this evening when i finally got bored of repeating the same thing over and over in each of my posts and yes I think I did get a good kicking and it seems I am personally responsible for this :)
