The missus works for ET and is handling enquirys about ADSL, get on this, its a killer.

If you are a Home Highway User/ ISDN and want to change to ADSL, ET can not run the test on your digi line, the choices are pay for the install of another ordinary land line and hope it dont fail the test or convert your current HH/ISDN back to analogue paying all the contract charges, coz u cancelled early and then hope that it dont fail the test.

There are currently no contingcy plans for HH/ISDN peeps wishing to upgrade to ADSL. Either way its gonna cost ya.

Chuffed? I knew you would be

I know all about this as I recently tried to upgrade from HH to BT Openworld and was given the same reasons for why they couldn't do it.

However, I managed to find out their is actually an ISDN -> ADSL conversion trial that BT are doing and I have applied to be in it - still waiting to hear though. :(

I am informed Openworld will probably be converting HH to ADSL (inc linetest) by April 2001, but I really want it now so hopefully the trial people will call me....come on, call me you basts!!

*whistles*

(2 x ISDN owner with 2 normal phone lines) :cheese:

Dont affect me dunnit. But if u think about it thats blimin harsh really, I wonder what the reason for their inability to convert digital lines to advanced digital lines is, when it is possible to go from analogue to advanced digital?

Or you could just get it free, when BT test it enough for use for employees. ;)

I just dip my tiny toe in the water and pull out a plum.

The HH kit can work on a longer cable length than the ADSL, I think. In other words, how far away from the exchange you are. Accurate measurements of cable length are made by electronic testing of the copper pair, which can only be done when the HH kit is removed. Oh and don't assume that because the Exchange is just over there, that it means your line length is nice and short. Don't forget that underground telephone cables don't go under or over Railways, Rivers or Canals. They follow roads. So your line may be longer than you think.

None of the above is guaranteed correct. I have no source material to quote from. I am not expressing the thoughts, desires, propaganda of any company, authority, regulator or Pizza manufacturer.
