View Full Version : Diary ov a n00bie Skateboarder....week: .. lots :(
This week I have progressed pretty well, I have learnt to do multiple (7) 180 manuals , varials, go down quarter pipes, do ok but slightly uncontrolled ollies, tick tack to build up lots of speed and just generally go along on my board pretty well.
The only 2 injuries I have had are from my friend sending a Skateboard flying into my ankle really hard and causing me to be unable to skateboard for about an hour and a completely painless fall that opened up a pin***** on my hand, which was weird because despite it being a pin***** by the time I walked around the corner my hand had become completely covered in blood...
I just realised that 3 of my 4 worst injuries are from my friend sending a skateboard flying into me and although I skateboard with 4 or 5 people its always the smae guy that injures me, I may have to talk to him... :(
Overall I learnt a lot and have spend about 10 hours skateboarding this week, I am happy, my Skateboard is happy, the pharmacy that sells my plasters is happy but not as happy as it was when I first started... :E

heh. Looks like you're progressing fine mate.
You say varial, you mean body varial? Becuase a "varial" is a very hard grab typed thing that tony hawk finds hard... You are either extremly good, or extremly misled (youth) :)
With your friend, im thinking he's doing it on purpose so you dont get better than him :E Just wack him a few times with yours and im sure he'll come to his senses.. :cheese:
sorry, I did mean body Varial, mesa forgot ;(
I think my friend may be doing it on purpose but he has always been better than me, he is a short arse so he can go down ramps much easier and he has better balance and co-ordination than me (although I am getting better at tricks than him and catching him up on ramps) plus he used to always hog the Skateboard ;(
how newbie are you.
my mate does this , says he can do a trick then when I go and watch him he doesnt do it.
its very shady when ppl do that

Izzie, can he do any flips? If not, do your classic ones, they are really cool as i found out, i can do them off curbs now! Thanks for introducing them to me :cheese:
I have been Skateboarding since just before Christmas but have only had a Skateboard with properly working bearing for about 3 weeks ;)
WW, I can only do classic Kickflips very rarely ;(
My friend can't really do tricks that great, just go down ramps :E
I just went Skateboarding from 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM :E
Tired, so very tired... ;(

12 hours? where? you must be some sort of superman...
the most i skated was for about 8 hours, in radlands the first time i went :) It was realy fun. you ever been to radlands?
Well it was 12 hours with 4 people and only 2 boards (both mine) so I was only Skateboarding a bit over half the time :)
Still I got so much better in that time and can now go down the quarter pipe, down the small ramp, over the small hump, down the big ramp, over the big hump, 4 feet up the Half Pipe, come back down and do a 180 all in 1 go :D
Also, after about half an hour of practicing today I can sort of ollie, I can ollie while standing still and probably go high enough to ollie most of the way of a curb before falling over ;)
I haven't been to radlands, where is it? :)

Right if your a n00bie wot does it make me!??!?
lol I hardly praccie thou, I aint got no one to praccie with, cos I aint really got any friends :( bah!.
Me gf got me into sk8in, she's tryin but she aint got time ARGH... so I got no one to sk8 with. Hmmmmm...
I can tick tack, errr I once got the board 1 ft off the ground trying to do an Ollie, my front foot was still on the board in the correct place on the front trucks but my back food was not even over the tail, it was on the ground LMAO.
hmmm
there is a 5ft quarter pipe ner me, and then following onto a fun box with a 5ft quarter pipe on the side.
Is it a good idea to start on a 5ft quarter pipe? cos it was scary going down a 7ft vert ramp when i used to inline sk8's, then i tried going down the 9ft side ARGH i fell ouch (that was on me inline sk8's).
Im more of a montain biker :E

start on the lowest size ramp that you can mate, its easier.
Sorry to hear that you dont have too many people to skate with, but if you find it fun, it doesnt really matter does it?
Izzie meh man, radlands is many years away from you, in northampton.

Well the nearest quarter pipe, is 5ft
That isn't really that great to start on, are there at least any other smaller ramps without that aren't half pipes to practice on?
I'm learning on a 4 foot one but I would have liked a 3 foot one just to gain confidence the first few tries, I will probably be putting a small Quarter piper ramp by itself in mah skatepark so n00bies aren't afraid to do it :)
OS, just try and persuade anyone to Skateboard with you or try and get to know some of the people at your local skatepark so you can skate with them ;)

my friend (sean_fists) lives about an hour away from swansea skatepark, they have like a 1 1/2 foot ramp there, its really amazing, you can try loads of crazy tricks on it, and if you fall, it doesnt really hurt :)
So j00 think a tiny little wimpy midget ramp is a good idea then? :)
*adds tiny little wimpy midget ramp to shopping list*
After days of thought and planning I have decided to try and get Bendcrete (www.bendcrete.com) to do the park as its too complicated for me to do by myself as although I am very good at design I don't really know enough about what makes a good park...
Hopefully the council won't mind paying some qualified people to make the place :E
What are your preferances on Skating surfaces?
I think I would like to have a wood park but its too high maintenece and can be easily kicked in by someone, Concrete is probably my best choice because its quieter than wood and metal, its pretty smooth and can be moulded to many shapes and it lasts a fair while too, the only problem is that it doesn't look too nice but I am going to try and surround the park with trees to cut down on light and sound pollution and that should stop it from annoying people who don't like the sight of big chunks of concrete ;)
Metal is also an option but it is expensive and noisy, it is a really good skating surface though and it lasts for quite a while plus it is almost as easy to alter a metal skatepark as it is to alter a wooden one :)

Nice one izzie, looks like you are coming along with this park fine
The bendcrete thing looks great, concrete is the best, no way metal, if you fall you are sure to have a gnarly injury :{
Keep us informed on the happenings, its sounds likes its going to be a sucess :D
Metal is worse than concrete? I would have thought it was better because it flexes a little like wood while concrete gives you a solid Impact...
Concrete seems to be the best option though since wood is out of the question (which is a pity, I went to PS park yesturday and wood is so much less scary than concrete, I am fairly scared of the 4 foot Concrete Quarter pipe at westbourne park but the 5 foot wooden pipe at PS doesn't really scare me although it did mash up my leg quite badly)

I would definitly get concrete if you have a choice between that and metal.
like i said, if you had metal, you would have many bad boo boos...
On a hot summers day, the metal would get boiling!
Metal may corrode a lot quicker than concrete ...

m8, I live in a dump. This sk8 park cant really be called one, all it has is a 5ft quarter pipe and a 5ft fun box.
Complete shíte!

I got it pretty bad to i live near london yeah but my areas a total sh1te hole,
We have one of them council skate parks u know the ones you get in local parks
It consists of:
One 7ft qtr pipe, Metal detachted from ground at bottom, dangerous
One 5 foot wide funbox where copin is made of two parts, ungrindable and deck of its spliting into two
One mini transition,1foot wide!! and two foot high, useless.
One concreate stair set which has no run up useless again.
one big one small rail, not bad.
two launch ramps nowhere near each other quite useless.
And A load of townies with spray, they cant even make anything good.
My little crew is one of the only skate groups in sutton, near london. There are a few other younger kids and a few sick lone guns who skate thats it rest townies.
My area is very dangerous i dont recommend you come anywhere near it. i have been mugged twice in last year. had 5 attempted muggins and mates are gettin death threats and chased around for no reason. IT SUX!!
i may live near london but cant travel coz we aint got a car.
Its strange tho we are always still drawn to the crappy skatepark we all meet there and skate it all day anyway.
wow a long post soz for the readin!!

Yer Ive had 1 attemted mugging around Chiswick where i used to have a gf that lived there. There wer 5 of the twats, I wouldnt let them have fúck all off me so they layed into me and i only came out with a grazed back (when i jumped on floor), and a bump on my head and that was it. I got up 10 seconds later an they all legged it LMAO.
They didnt even get a penny!
Well i went to that sk8 park in blackpool and its pretty LAME. Well it consists of 2 half pipes which i think are meant to be a spine but it dont work out to well when there is a 4ft gap between um. A fun box abit shíte, another fun box VERY SHÍTE A small mini 3ft half pipe made out of wood with cracks the lot in and I wouldnt touch that cos it was only f0000kin 3ft wide LMAO. And this other thing I wasnt sure what it was for hmmmm..... It was like two 1ft high launch ramps connected together with 2ft of rail down one side. I WAS LIKE WHAT THE F()()K is that? There was also a few rails and ARSE they wer ****e as well. THe surface was complete P()()()!!! if you fell on that you would get your skin grazed away to your bone, and I did fall over and my bitchin house keys stuck into my leg!.
AND to top it all up, i didnt really see any full proof sk8'ers there, there was just f00kin townies that looked dodgy as hell, so i left cos it was pooo. But on the way home we foudn this REALLY nice smooth tarmac (on a main road lol), and I figured out how to do OLLIES!!!!!!! wicked :E
