Thinking of buying

I was thinking of buying this game and was wondering about a few things.
1. I hear the magic systems kinda strange/unique, whats unique and whats good/bad about it.
2. how much are the online costs.
3. do you need a realy low ping rate to have any fun. will a 56k sofware modem do.
4. does it crash much.

1. its not strange at all. Its not really unique either. The best thing about it is when you see a high lvl person cast an uber spell and you spend 6 months earning enough exp to be that good. There is a lot of satisfaction when you can eventually cast the high lvl spells.

2. online costs are 6 quid a month. If you pay for the dialup then of course theres that too. I would think twice about buying ac if you didnt have 0800 dialup, or a perm connect.

3. 56k modem is fine 99% of the time. Most of the lag problems are from the server itself.

4. Never crashed for me (win98).

I've tried UltimaOnline and EverQuest and AC is far better than both IMO: good interface, good gfx, great atmosphere.
Only downer is that bloody annoying fly-buzzing sound that plays every 10 seconds :(

In answer to question 4)

From my experience the only time there was trouble with the servers was after WinterSebb opened up. Aside from that brief outage, the servers are only down once a month for patching.

And its nearly always on the tuesday Im off work :(.

Thanks for your responce. I'm still a little undesided. I do have 0800 access, so thats not a problem. It just that I got ultima really cheap and the amount of rabits you have to kill before you can do anything interesting is anoying. Are new characters in AC bunny bashers or can you join in with a proper adventure quite quickly.
