View Full Version : Plz Help Me :(
I have a big problem with BG2.
When i first got it it was running perfectly (well, almost), but then i uninstalled it coz i needed more space. I installed it again, but this time, when i configure the game options and click save (which you have to do b4 u can play), it sez 'cannot write to baldur.ini)....then, when i press cancel, it tries loading the game up, and another error box appears saying it cannot access someplace or summet :(
plz help me! I need to play BG2!
Here are a few things you could try (further suggestions from other forum members welcome):
1) Check that your baldur.ini file hasn't somehow been set to read-only.
2) Run scandisk, including checking hard drive for bad sectors.
3) Uninstall then reinstall BG2 (yes, again). Some files may be corrupted. You might try manually deleting whatever's left in your BG2 directory after you uninstall, to be sure they get replaced when you reinstall.
4) Complete HD reformat! Mwahahahahaa!
I have installed BG2 a number of times to getr it workin, full and recommended...

ok, now the baldur.ini ISNT set to read only, so that is now working :)
BUT....
The second window still appears!
This is what it sez:-
"An Assertion failed in CHDimm.cpp at line number 599
Programmer says: Unable to open BIF:data\Hd06Mosc.bif"
WTF?

Did you get that error every time you reinstalled, or just this time? File corruption seems the most likely problem. If you have a recommended install at the moment, then a CD may be scratched (uh-oh). If it's a full install you might be lucky - check the Data directories on your BG2 CDs for the file specified, and copy it over the corrupted one on your hard drive.

oh dear, when things like this happen it really is not going to be something easily solveable. What I suspect is that when you uninstalled bg2 something went wrong somewhere, and windows has certain files registered all over the wrong place and whatnot.
When windows has big tantrums liek this the only person who could really solve it would be bill gates... try bill.gates@microsoft.com :P
the only things I could suggest would be to have a look in your registry and delete any keys relating to bg2, then reinstall it. If that doesnt work then try posting on the official bg2 boards...maybe somebody could help there. otherwise I strongly suspect you will have to reformat ;(

There's no need to attempt to be abusive (and fail, incidentally, due to the hilarious effects of the Gameplay language filters).
As for you talking to 'the guy who started the thread', since that was in fact you, I'm entitled to be confused. I hadn't realised we had a madman in here (apart from FA of course :rolleyes: )

hehe as usual everyone has went of the subject :p My Totsc cd got scratched I was doing good and got to werewolf island and in the section where the boat is I could'nt get into so I was shocked level 7 or 8 I was that takes alot of time in BG

ok, im going to set this straight....i was the person that started this post, but i used my cousins username (luigi). My name is mario, and thats why he sed to stop bein him :) So it wasnt me bein abusive, it was him, who was kinda me :) lol :)
Not too complicated, u should figure it out :)
ps. i still havent got bg2 workin yet :( *sob*
Ah! Thanks for clearing that up. I shall beware of Luigis in future :rolleyes:
