I'm trying to decide whether to brighten up VS_Church map,

seems some people like it dark and some don't.

I'd like a kind of vote on this please bearing in mind there *cough* might possibly be vamp night vision in the next beta release.

Your constructive opinions plz :)

Thanks [BFTD]Slayer

I dont see anything wrong with the darkness. If i wanted to see everyone perfectly then dm with them i'd play hldm or tfc. The creeping about is the fun part of the game :)

btw, it's an opinion poll, an opinion pole is used in those touchy feely self-help classes ;)

the darkness is excellent, leave it alone :)

Vamps don't like the light.... and since when have areas such as crypts had lighting? :)

Only thing i see wrong with it, is the R_speeds inside the church where the light is shining through the window...

other than that it's excellent :E

Vamps don't like SUNLIGHT (so why is it vamps don't die in quaint ;)). Second of all, I don't like having to bump up the brightness of my monitor to see 10 feet in front of me. There's a difference between making it as bright as a TFC or DM level and making it bright enough to find the exit of and navigate a room. You could put in oil lamps on little boxes or on tables or something or hanging from the roof that produced a fairly high amount of light, but clicking on the lamp switches off the light making it as dark as it currently is, that way slayers and vamps have some control over how bright an area is.

examples of places, put one on a box in the bell tower, a couple on poles in the sanctuary. A couple on coffins in the crypt area. One on top of the altar in the room above the secret "dwarf" room. One hanging from the ceiling in the chamber that connects the coffin outside to the upper area of the vampire respawn. One on a wall on the first landing of the steps down from the graveyard. etc.

And I don't think it's a matter of r_speeds in the church, its a matter of all those light sprites (or something like that:P) originating from the window and causing lower FPS.

Outside: Fine, leave it

Church: Stream light from stained glass windows

Crypt: Red glowing torches

I think the brightness is fine. I remember that people would often bitch about the brightness of Counter-strike maps as well. It's sad, really. A level with some nice places to hide that's well designed and oozing with atmosphere, and of course, all people can do is bitch about the brightness of it.

So, if you can't tell, I think you should leave the lighting the way it is.

you know like the light comes in the tower windows, as it is a func_wall with the properties to make it translucent etc ?

do it like that for the stained glass window in the church :)

ahh right i get you now m8,

originally the windows were transparent but im afraid i had to make them solid as the r-speeds were going up to 800-900 as the engine could see in side the church and out the other side, so i decided to make them solid func-walls and just emit a slight amount of light just for the effect,
sorry matey but they can't be changed :(

np m8. One thing that could be done is the crypt. Put some fire torches glowing red on the walls and more prominent lighting near the exit to the outside, as people run around in the centre of the crypt typing:
"Where the hell is the exit" :)
