I have just recently acquired a 511 as part of a mobile phone deal. I had it chipped by Dvdmagic last weekend.
Basically I was just wondering if any fellow owners know of anything I should be wary of - particularly any kind of problems, discs to avoid, Region 1 discs that fail to work properly, RCE protection, etc.
I appologise if this post has been done before.

I've had a Samsung 511 for a couple of months now and thrown approx. 40 DVDs at it with a mixture of Single and Dual Layered/Sided, region 0,1 & 2 and I've had no problems with it.
Apparently some of the bad ones are Gladiator and Matrix which I have and both worked perfectly.
BTW - You shouldn't have needed to chip it as all it takes to make it region free is to press approx. 8 buttons on the remote and the jobs done.

Doh! if I'd have known that last weekend it would have saved me $40.
Still as the player was free I can't complain too much especially if its reliable as well.

Its annoying that companies are quite prepared to rip you off in this way.
If its your first DVD player then you could hardly be expected to know that all it required was a handset hack. The company that took your money on the other hand would have known full well that to make the 511 multi region you just needed to tap a few numbers on the remote. Its been common knowledge since the player came out...
I believe lots of the info on http://www.709online.com/ is also relevant to 511 owners
I too have a Samsung 511 - However, the remote hack doesn't seem to work for me. I believe that later firmware versions have yet to be hacked. I'm hoping that it'll only be a matter of time b4 an alternative is discovered.

From what I've read about the 511 it often takes more than one attempt to hack it. Some people have said that it took them 4-5 attempts before it worked.
El Nino, I'd give it another go if I were you. It's not gonna cost you anything and it might just work. Remember to "Cold Start" it before each attempt.
Bare in mind that Macrovision cannot be disabled on 511s unlike on the 709.
I have tried severeal times, always having followed the 'cold start' routine. No joy - No Region 1 DVDs!!
