TBH I don't think it will be my type of game and so I don't intend buying it but I know there is a lot of excitment brewing about it so please tell me why in particular you are looking forward to it and why I should change my mind.

OI

Because of the freedom to do virtually whatever you want.Open-ended and unlinear gameplay. Drop-dead gorgeous graphics.A-I that actually learns from what you do.Gripping plot.Over 400 missions spanning 4 worlds.

P.S. Apparently you can add after-spin to flicked boulders, allowing them to skip over water and curl around corner.B&W also searches your address book and renames the villagers after everyone on your mailing list:)

OOPS, got a bit over-excited then:wink:

Have you seen the graphics/movies??? Ok, many games in the past had the graphical effects but lacked the rest. This promises both. You just have to see that Cow Vs. Tiger movie, that alone'll be worth playing the game for!

Also, It's the only game I know of that supports T&L. Finally, I can take my GeForce2 GTS to it's limits!

Technically, it's not your conventional game. More of an 'interactive' scenario type thing. Things happen around you and you have the power to do almost anything.

However it has many limitations, so calling it a 'God' sim is nothing short of foolish.

MUNKYFUNK

eeerrrrrrrrrr there are about 100 games that support T&L.......Quake3, Colin MrRea Rally 2, etc :)

Care to back that up?

This is made by the guy that created the God-sim genre. So I think he'd know how to do a god-sim.

I'm sure you could have named more then two out of a hundred, if you really tried!

In any case, this game'll do for T&L what Toni & Guy did for hair cuts.....uuuuuuuh, right, yeah forget I said that!

This is made by the guy that created the God-sim genre

What an ignorant, narrow-minded thing to say. Only one of those 'atheist' type frauds could come out with a name like 'God-sim'. For common street urchins who don't believe in God, then try to comprehend his power.... it's as futile as it sounds.

Suffice to say, these games are 'Power-Sims', NOT God Sims. Never were, can never be.

ERRRRRRRRR , WTF has religion got to do with a god-sim.It`s simply a phrase, nothing more, nothing less.PM invented the god-sim with populous:)..............anyway religion is for weak ppl who need an icon to follow to fill the empty void within their lives, and to make themselves believe that they have a purpouse in life. All religions are evil and are based on power and manipulation:wink:
Good and Evil have nothing to do with religion,it`s all about controlling ppl.PM has really got the god-sim sorted with B&W, and has shown ( like you pointed out ghost) that really it`s all about power. :)

Oi! Watch it. You're treading on thin ice. I don't want to get into an argument on why you're wrong (I know that in some cases you're not) but don't just generalise religion like that please.

Lol

So should we rename Beat em ups - Inflict-pain-em-ups

Shoot em ups - Hand-eye-coordination-em-ups

RPGs: Electronic Interactive Story Tellers

It's just the name that was given to the genre over time. And what makes a God a God, if it isn't Power?

:)

Ok, I'm not trying to re-name the genre...just re-defining it. All the ones above do what they say.

But to call a game a God Sim is silly because, God can do alot more then Slap monkies, do spells, resource manage.... and doesn't need a Ninja PC to do it!

In, say, beat-um-ups you beat people up as you would in real life(or at least how you'd have your mates believe!). So it stays true to it's name.... 'cept you don't get arrested and end up in the slammer.... but the concept isn't too far from reality. But the 'God Sim' has a looong way to go, before gaining that title, which it never will.

Thats why I call it a Power sim, as it gives you a 'feel' of power... but still very limited.

So lets not cry about this, scream at each other and what not. We have different beliefs... doesn't mean we can't enjoy the same game. Albiet under a different 'genre' class!

Sar

Nah it's a God-Sim.

I just love how self-centered Christians can be when you say the word god, as if it automatically means their precious Yahweh.

Why should you buy it? If you don't know why, then frankly, you don't /deserve/ to have it :P Basically, I am currently an fps-only man. My most recent games are Deus Ex, Half-Life and Op For, Midtown Madness, GTA 2 and The Sims. So, it would seem I'm not the slightest bit interested in the "God" genre. But, Black and White has meant that I now am. It looks, sounds and will obviously will feel so sublime to play, that I know it's just a game I can't miss and one that'll make my eyes bleed with delight. For all that it promises, and indeed, all it'll deliver, it deserves to be bought by everyone who calls themselves a PC gamer.

cleoteo
26-02-2001, 20:25
Errrrrmmm...... actually I won't be buying it

Thats what I married Munks for,he buys em,i play em,onto a good one i say  I'm hoping that it's not gonna be like some games in the past that only allow one saved game or else I'm gonna

And I dunno why Munks watched Life of Brian last nite as the silly buggers got it on video

Ok, Surely the reason we all share this same hobby, regardless of genre, is to have the sensation of power and control without the consequences. Be it belting down the hockenheim straight at 217 mph and braking as late as possible is great fun but i wouldnt want to do it for real cos i'm a bit crap and crash alot.

Quake, half life et al, sure it's great fun but but again i wouldn't do it cause it's a rocket is always gonna smart a bit :)

To me, Black & White is going to take this to a whole new level, to be able to see the long term consequences of our approach to character development will be like trying to raise kids without the associated interesting smells.

So, Sar/FunkyMunk like PC Gamer do you? Serve in their Clans do you? respect their reviews/views do you? Hold PC Gamer as your Bible do you?

Well, guess what...PC Gamer define B&W as a "Real-Time Strategy" game!!!! Muwahahahaha_heeeeeee.

:Bandit:

Sar
27-02-2001, 15:36
All I said was one of their reviewers plays in my clan, and his opinions I respect.

But just because PCG defines it as RTS doesn't mean they're right, because they're not. It's in no way an RTS game. It's a god-sim cum RPG, pure and simple.

Well I`ve known Swiss (James Rossignol) for about 18 months on-line sine Kingpin.I only joined XPD about 3 months ago and didn`t find out until 2 months ago that he was a staff writer for PC GAMER.I`ve read PC GAMER for about 2 years and find their reviews to be quite accurate (unlike magazines like PC ZONE :-which is translated from their Dutch parent mag).
So what if it`s classed by them as a real time strategy game,it makes no difference to me at all.Stop being a prat by causing arguments Ghosty:) :gimp:

It's not a God sim, purely because 'God' (lol) has no power because 'God' does not exist, whereas B&W surely does, or will, exist. I know this because I've seen the screenies. Feel free to post a screenie of your God to end this argument. I thank my Mother daily that my life is not so empty as to need spiritual pretence to drive it forward. I thank Bill Gates and Alex Ferguson daily also for the beauty they have brought me. :cheese:

/me swoops in with his tuppence worth

Remember that as well as the story mode, which is a mixture of God Sim - You ruling your people, being good to them, bad to them, they provide you with power etc. etc., it is also RTS in that you have to manage the village effectivley i.e make sure enough wood is available to build stuff, done most effectively by getting your villagers to do, need to carefully manage food as, as your titan gets older he eats more hence not as much for villagers unless they produce more, also need to watch your population so need to set villagers to making babies all day (nice job if you can get it :E)

There is also the skirmish mode, from what I've read, which is basically RTS with you having to manage your village the best then use your titan to pound the stuffing out of another village.

Multiplayer is going to be mainly based around the RTS side of things, with the village as its the source of power, being important to keeping you up and about.

If any of that makes sense at this time in the morning, i'd be glad to find it :)

This really is dragging on... where you been hiding for the past two weeks BBW, on a school trip to the Alps or something? Man, I thought this topic was over... but wondered in here only to find out someone is beyond pathetic.

Now, for a kid who believes God doesn't exist, but then goes on to believe in a 'God-Sim' you sure are confused.

Anyway... I don't have time for this right now, so do me a favour and ask your baby-sitter to teach you some manners.

(I don't know, is it just me... or is society falling apart?) Yep, the end is nigh allright!
