Hmmmmmm

I have seen these floating about a lot - but what are they? To me they appear to just have a few more features on them, but their price is MUCH more.

Reason I ask, is I just ordered The Rock : Criterion Edition.

Criterio are a company who seem dedicated to to making an already superb format even better. They select certain films they feel are either classic or important contemporary movies and usualy with close support from the director and\or studio produce an excellent dvd package.
If any of your favourite films are available on Criterion then their definatley worth the extra they cost.
I have Armageddon C.E. and you would not believe how much better the picture and sound is over my standard R2 copy. Then you have the extra disc with all the extras on they can find and some made especialy for the disc.
Another nice thing is once they've been deleted they tend to shoot up in value.

Yep, Criterion generally produce some fantasic DVD presentations of excellent movies. The pricing is probably because a lot of the extras they utilise they commission themselves. Plus, Criterion editions usually have very clean prints in comparison to a lot of back-catalogue films. Also, bear in mind, a lot of the movies Criterion present are not necesarilly regarded as priorities for DVD by the film companies that own them so to have a definitive release available (even if it is expensive) is nice.
