View Full Version : Another game ruined by cheating???

I was worrying last night about a problem that could arise with B&W and how people think it might be stopped. I'm talking about cheating. We all know that most games will only allow you to cheat in single player games, but with Black and White the single and multi player cross over. So if someone can cheat their Titan up to a super mega monster whatever level in SP, would that then be carried over into MP? I'm hoping that Lionhead haven't included any cheats (I doubt they have) but could we also face the prospect of someone creating a titan editor program which would enable people to program titans in windows to be the best of the best of the best (sir)?

You can be damn sure LH have thought about this and done something to combat it. Otherwise playing multiplayer would be pointless...

I disagree, no matter what Lionhead have done, there'll always be some unscrupulous individuals out there ready to make a 'hack' of some sort.

Sad to say, but 'titan' editors will probably be released within weeks of the game being unleashed.

Well, as long as I can get a humongous chicken with all the spells...I'm not complaining!

I agree the game will doubtlessly have people hacking it straight away and if they succeed it may cause a problem for the whole MP side of Black and White. But we've faced these problems since we began playing over the internet, its no big thing anymore. Most players will be involved in clan wars or playing against people they know, i dont think we will want to go on the internet to play a stranger as ive never found any fun in that (you can't rub a strangers face in the dirt like you can a friend you meet in the pub later :) ). So my advice is to play against yer mates or clan wars and you'll probably never see any cheating!

I have to disagree pcmonkey. It`s great when you beat someone online in Q3 and they strop and leave the server, always brings a smile to my face:).Even in clan games there is a fair bit of cheating going on aswell.

Personally I never cheat,at the end of the day it`s ppl with no skill who find it necessary to cheat, but you`re only cheating yourself out of the satisfaction of knowing that you did it all on your own.
The only way I can see cheats being stopped is when Lionhead release B&W worlds (rumoured to be in about 5/6 months time).Or if you create a titan online and can only access it from Lionheads secure servers (ala Diablo2).
At the end of the day, because B&W will be so popular, there will be cheats.I`m all for stopping them, but can`t realistically see a way of stopping them:(
Maybe someone should set up a name&shame list, so ppl can be aware of who is cheating?

"Name and Shame", I like it!

All pets guilty of cheating could be stoned to death by the tiny villagers!

Wouldn't mind watching that every weekend!

Lol

Another use for B&W: Re-enacting all your fave Monty Python Scenes. :P

Even the big foot to squash all your villagers. Except it would be a huge hoof. :P

Can you get your titan to chop off all a villager's limbs do you think? "It's only a flesh wound".

Or create a shrubbery. "We want (you to reduce your enemy's village to) a shrubbery!"

"Who are you calling big snout?"

erm - is the multiplayer going to be peer2peer ?
If it is i hope the creator will be able to kick disruptive/cheating players. If its server based, cheating wont be much of a problem as long as there are admins around.

As for the persistent world bit, if they can have as much success as Blizz have with diablo2, there have been only a few minor hacks, which were countered the day they happened by blizz - and that character murder thing, which was a one off while blizz were patching, all the characers killed off were ressurected by blizz anyway.

I dont think lionhead would have overlooked this at all - i cant see it being a problem - titan editors, cant see that happening either - i think the coding involved in your titan will be far to complex for anyone to make an editor, But i could be wrong.

Playing against strangers is good tho - ive noticed lately that my scout (CS) doesnt only kill with headshots - it frequently causes the target to leave the game aswell. :E

NI!!!!!

MunkyFunk you didnt agree with me. but i agree with your second paragraph a name and shame thing would be so cool :)
to the best of my knowledge....ive never played against a hacker in any online game ive ever played....except shattered galaxy which can be hacked very easily apparently :(
oh and one more thing im going to email lionhead and ask if they could make you there official mascot for B&W :)
wherever that game gets mentioned your close by sniffing something out :D

well take Diablo 2 you could hack your Charter offline and get him to be a level 80 necro with 20 to every skill and massive excelent armour but you take him online and youll find that you cant play and if you cant your charter is reset to what it should be so im guessing they have the same sort of thing in B&W
