View Full Version : Giants anyone?
In a similar vein to the Sacrifice topic, has anyone got Giants and is it worth using as a months stopgap until B&W? :) System specs are not an issue.
Lol
I was actually looking for a stopgap until B&W comes along as well. :D
I was actually thinking about Populous: The beginning
Not bad I suppose for £5.
:P
I've got PopTB. It's good. I might just unpack it and replay. But the max res is 1024! Ewwww. Then again, Thief II is meant to be £9.99 budget now ...

Yes i have giants - didnt rate it at first, but only cause my v3 was giving me 10fps max. now with me geforce2 it runs very smooth(ish)..
If youve got a monster pc it will look amazing, as for the game - i like it alot, single player is good up to the point you become kabuto, it gets a bit tedious stamping on things.
But playing as meccs and reapers (reapers especially.) is great fun, and when you get to start building bases the single player is at its best..
All that said - if you want a stop gap until B&W - go and get Diablo2 if you havent already. guarenteed 4 months of joy. I still play it now and again - but im in need of the expansion badly.. Played diablo2 to death :)
Like I said, specs aren't really an issue (Athlon@1Ghz, Radeon64Mb, 256RAM, etc.). But if the gameplay is as good as you say .... maybe I'll get it. I might just stick with Populous 3 though (thanks for the suggestion Sar) and save my cash. I can't really afford another £30 odd at the moment. Probably better saved for a rainy day / iFeel ;)

I'm currently playing Deus Ex untill B&W comes out.
I hope I've got enough time to finish it (it's hard fitting it in around work and my UT habit!) - it's ace!
Runs a bit slowly on my comp though and I get the feeling it shouldn't.
/me makes posting to Deus Ex forum.

should last you a good week (up to the 1st current predicted release date) its worth purchasing as its a peice of art and the british humour is top notch.
on another note it will run well on most systems if you play around with features, i currently have the best system on the market and it still runs poo with all features on (me waits for geforce 3 to arrive in 2 weeks)
Really? I've got Deus Ex running full features at 1600*1200*32 fine. But then I have a 1Ghz Athlon, 64Mb Radeon, SB Live! and 256 Mb RAM. OK, maybe not such a good example then :D.
But yeah, you should be able to use Deus Ex to last you until B&W. If not then play it again but choose different paths in the story. It's a top game, with some great mods in development (*cough*sig*cough*).
I think Carrot was talking about Giants m8 ;)

The latest (mailed to me today) copy of PCZone has a demo of Giants, on it. Worth a try before you shell out £30.

Yeah, I'm a PCZ subscriber as well but I wanted to know how the rest of the game was. The demo was maybe a bit limited.

I've got giants and I got bored of it..never even got to use the second cd. Populous tb is gr8...and only 1024*768 eh falo? Thats the max resolution some of us can have due to their small crappy monitors made out of matchsticks and shredded yellow pages :(
I thought the new homeworld game was quite good, and also if you haven't got it shogun total war is an absolute must - the only game I bought last year that I'm still playing. Otherwise it's been pretty slow recently...
