If they are blocking the ports around the 6667 area, then you won't have much luck.
If there is a proxy server available then you might be able to use that, but if it's on 'open' proxy, then Quakenet will k-line you on connect.

If you can telnet / SSH to another machine outside of you r school, then you might be able to run an IRC client such as BitchX, or even install a 'bouncer' on the remote machine, and bounce through that to the IRC server.

Java apps will just build the IRC client locally on your machine, which is then ran, so you still need that ~6667 port to be open for business.

I managed to get IRC working on my school network by using port 6668 instead of 6667, but you could always try 6669 - 7000 or on gameplay.com i know there is 8080 :)

thanks people, im going to try bitchx. A boucing thing sounds good but i dont know anything about them. It seems that igear blocks every port that isnt used by either IE or outlook :/

hmm ic

that puts you in a sticky situation :(

Usually they just block known ports to be deemed as "Bad Ports" but having said that i'm sure I know of a small program that will allow you to use any port :naughty:

I'll try and find it :)
