I took the plunge and downloaded the 2 iso images from the Linux-Mandrake webby last night.
Burnt to CD ok and then time to install. I used Partition Magic to carve off a partition which was then formatted to suit Linux.
Set the installer to use it and no prob. Great, whistles thru all the install steps until it comes to setting up the network.
1st Prob, I dont have a network card, but obviously I want to use the 'net. Select my connection type ok and then it hangs asking for the network protocol to use, which is pointless without a card.
2nd Prob, I have the inux drivers for my modem on a windows partition, but how do I a) get Linux to find them, and b) install the blighters. The root cause of the hassle can be summed up in a short phrase " USB Alcatel ADSL modem ". I don't know if the usb has been set up right as the only thing connected is the modem, but the lights wont activate till the drivers are in I think.
So........
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPP !!!!
Please :)
