I've had Mandrake7.1 installed before which went nicely :)

But now, I want to install Mandrake8. Is this new version reliable?
Should I go for it now, or is an update expected within the next month or so?
If I simply download both the ISO's and burn them. Will the CD's be bootable?

Should I know of any other secrets?

Most reports so far seem favourable. The did go through three beta versions.

The timing of the a .1 release is normally entirely dependant on the reliability of the .0 release. Based on this, I'd guess there won't be another stable version for a few months, but that's basically voodoo. You'll probably be able to upgrade from .0 to .1 just by updating packages anyway.

Should be, assuming the ISOs were intended to be. (That is, home-burning them should make no difference.)

Should I know of any other secrets?

Yes.

I recently DL'd both Mandrake 8 ISOs and burned them with Nero: the first at least is bootable (haven't looked at the 2nd).

Thanks Peach, I've dl'd both ISO's and sucessfully burned them. The second CD isn't bootable, as it contains all the extra apps and stuff.... called rpm?!?Still kinda new to this.

Anyone know where I can get 'Mandrake 8' CD labels?

Cheers Slime ;)

As much as I appreciate the offer, I'd rather not put you through the trouble!

I've got 200 odd blank CD-Labels, so if you could kindly upload the images, or let me know where to download from, I can print them from home :)

In any case, my email: space_ghost_@hotmail.com

Thnx.
