An interesting article - Brandon Justice raises some salient points. The feel of the article is not that of fanboyism, but open minded opinion.

I have to agree with Brandon (although he does not explicit state as much) that the majority of the X-Box bashing is being done purely because the console is produced by the evil Microsoft. Perhaps if the thing had a different manufacturer there wouldn’t be so many poisoned arrows?

Marty

That's what i've been thinking the whole time. If the Xbox were made by Nintendo\Sony\Sega (same hardware, design and games), people would be really excited about it, and the games.

Not really am, i dont like xbox because none of the games so far have inspired me, and the games seem to be very PC'y and i prefer console stuff TBH

Interesting article, strange thing is that this is what Brandon Justice had to say concerning the X-BOX at E3 a few weeks ago...

"And before you Microsoft flunkies get a big, smug smile on your faces, don't think for a second that I think the Xbox took this show, either. Sure, those guys came out with a lot more intriguing content than their neighbors from Redmond, but truth be told, the Xbox has an uphill battle that few at Microsoft have started to recognize, and if they do see it coming, they have done very little publicly to address exactly how they intend to combat it."

"To put things bluntly, no one gives a flying damn how good the content is, and unfortunately, the Xbox showing at E3 did little to change their minds. Microsoft has no internal sports line-up, far too many 2nd tier 3rd party titles, a big headache awaiting them in Japan, and a GameCube launch date that is going to put the hurt on them in a major way. I expected E3 to be their big chance to show how they were going to resolve at least some of these problems, but all I got was content I was already aware of and the notion that getting through the launch with all the standard bells and whistles was priority one."

"Especially when you consider that, right now, they're barely keeping their heads above water. And it isn't for a lack of trying, so much as it is a lack of understanding. Sure, Oddworld is good enough that it has me excited to be a part of this console's launch, and if they can make single-player compelling enough by launch, Halo will be the best console FPS to hit a console this side of PS2 Half-Life, but outside that, the big guns didn't look so massive at E3."

"From what we witnessed, it seems as if Microsoft is more concerned with building up their model in Sony's image, and the fact is, the PlayStation 2 is doing just fine on establishing dominance. Trying to wholly steal the PS2's market share will be damned near impossible without some sort of unique hook. From where we're sitting, Microsoft is already lagging behind in several key areas such as: Internet functionality, 3rd party support, their user install base and public perception, and they just don't seem to want to concede that more is needed to get over this hump of consumer apathy. Until this happens, we'll still be looking forward to the Xbox, but the truth is, we will probably remain in the minority, and if this doesn't change, it will lead to larger troubles ahead."

He ends on a fairly postive note saying that he is still looking forward to the X-BOX. However it turns slightly sour for the x-box readers when he starts applauding the PS2 and Sony from the next paragraph onward.

"And, as much as we hate to admit it, the main reason behind our disappointment in both systems comes from our unavoidable appreciation for what Sony has managed to put together over the past year. They may have thrown together a sloppy launch, and let down more than a few gamers in the process, but at this point, Sony seems to be moving ahead full-steam"

When I originally read the xbox.ign.com opinions on the xbox I was surprised since it is a x-box site. However I thought it was a brave move showing that they are not concentrating on appeasing the rabid fanboys, but trying to be realistic and honest cmncerning problems facing MS and the X-BOX. Afterall there is no point pulling the wool over your readers eyes.

After reading both articles it seems pretty clear that the guys at xbox.ign.com are slightly confused about what their overall opinion of the console is. If anyone is interested in reading the article I quoted from, you should its good, then here is the link http://xbox.ign.com/news/35114.html . Just be prepared to be a tad upset if you don't like reading postive opinions concerning the PS2 from an XBOX journalist:)

Brandon Justice - Sounds like a game character's name to me.....He should be in Tekken 4 or perhaps be Duke Nukem's best m8....Heheh.

Do you think he's a paranoid schizophrenic, or just a 'nom de plume'?:E

He's just an arse. Really, don't put too much into what he says. He's one of those peopel that says stuff and when people get annoyed says "Sigh, I knew people would take it the wrong way, I was trying to spark some debate" yadda yadda yadda. If he didn't have a site, he'd be a troll on a message board.

He drew a pretty reckless comparison between people who liked Gamecube's showing at e3 and Neo-Nazis and then basically told people to go f*ck themselves if they thought he was an ass. So I've simply stopped reading his articles, he's a full-on, grade A idiot.

I hardly post here - so you know I must feel strongly about it. Or something.

Yeah he has been way off the mark in the past. I think that's why IGN have 'asked' him to leave. Think he's going tommorow.
Recently hes written two good features on the Xbox, one saying how bad e3 was and one saying how ignorant fanboys can be towards the Box.

At least he actually speaks his mind, not like most site muppets. Although calling Nintendo fans Neo-nazis was a bit off.

Brandon Justice is simply taking the time to blow apart a lot of the silly anti-X-Box statements that fanboys of other systems scatter across the forums.

I can understand he's got a little irritated at the constant carping at a console that hasn't even been released yet.

This sort of criticism has to be driven by fanboyism and fear - the fear that the new console will invalidate people's investment in consoles they've already bought.

There is no contradiction in stating this, and also believing that Microsoft still have a lot of work to do in getting the marketing right for the X Box.

He didn't get the sack btw, there's hidden text in his goodbye story saying why he's really going.

That wacky cad!
