Right, a few weeks back my Panel in Gnome vanished, so each time I would log in I would have my desktop and nothing else. I did an "mv .gnome .gnome-bak", reset my Gnome settings and got the panel back. Today, it's happened again. The panel was fine when I logged out, I log back in and it's gone. So I do the "mv .gnome .gnome-bak", restarted and went back into Gnome and had my panel back again. Unfortunately, all of my desktop icons no longer load, and on the Gnome screen as it's loading, it longer shows as loading "Desktop" so I assume this is where the problem lies.
Does anyone know a) how to get my desktop icons back (it's just the default ones) and b) how to stop things like this happening? Having things vanishing when they are just fine when I log out is now becoming most annoying.
