I'd like to start discuss about what is the best console there is, and reason why it is best? Please mention one console that you have played and one that you think is going to be great.

If you ask me what is best I can't deside between X-Box and Gamecube. Think those are good 'cause they got cool looking games, of course I can't say for sure 'couse they are not even out yet.

I got playstation 2, but It's not that good what they say, It got poor games.

Well I own an n64 and DC. Of these two the n64 was the better deal since it had tonnes of high quality games especially from nintendo and rareware but even given the age difference the DC was the better designed console, the n64 was poorly balanced and used catridges.
The PS2 is full of bottlenecks, its expensive and doesn't exactly have a great selecetion of games.
The X-box should be just as expensive but probably the most powerful of the systems. The titles due out for it also look rather unappealing.
My expected winner is the Gamecube which is the cheapest, has nintendo, rare and silicon knights writing games for it as well as a large number of quality 3rd party games due and from the looks of it in some respects its more powerful than the X-box. The launch line up with games like Dinosaur planet, Eternal Darkness, Rogue Leader, Too Human, Luigis Mansion and Wave Race Blue Storm looks very impressive. I mean just nintendo and rare made the n64 worthwhile, add another 2nd party and better 3rd party support and you get nothing short of brilliance.

i damn well agree with dark_exodus
the SNES is the best games console in the damn entire god filled world, the grapics were great (way better then the mega drive), the games were awesome- it had (and aurgably still does) the best RPG's money had to offer (pah! u sega peeps can have shining force- we've got zelda :P ), had kool fighting games (Street fighter 2 turbo /Street fighter alpha anyone), and had the sweetest multiplayer games life could provide (if u didn't like bomberman- there was something wrong with u :P - and mario kart= joy)

now- onto the x-box and gamecube
now- both machines are near enough coming only a few days apart from each other, both consoles show impressive capiblities and can provide some awesome graphics- but if i were u- i would get the gamecube when it comes out.
why- well cause a) the gamecube is gonna be way cheaper- we are looking at £200 while the x-box will be a £300. and also quite frankly, the X-box games list looks uninspring (and ironicly so do the games though there are some good ones)

but it's still too early to call but for now i gonna keep my eye on the gamecube

i'm kinda disapointed abt buying the PS2 but as dedicated games player i'm gonna keep it (and i feel that i shall be rewarded with awesome games)

Do you suppose there is any chance they will port Super Mario World to the GBA? I loved that game, loved it :)

I don't think that there is a best console. If there was why would I bother owning most of them?

There are fantastic (exclusive) games for every console that I own, so I'm not going to give up on buying consoles and games. To that end I have a GC and X-Box on pre-order.

Why should it matter which console is best - surely which game is best is a more worthy pursuit?

Regards
Marty

Well to me the best console is one which provides games with good gameplay, good framerates and fits into my budget :) Gone are the days when I could afford every system

If you dont want to pay download the emulators and any SNES game you want for free!

Which is illegal, Y0u P1R4t3 5CuM!!1!!1111```

After reading through the post again, no-one actually said the GBA was the best, making this post redundant, & me to look like a right arse.

So I'll just say which console I think is grate:

The SNES.

Well that all depends if u have the originals or not.

Whether you have the originals or not, it is still illegal.

Trust me, pleading that you still have the originals holds less water than my diabetic grandfather...

Well actually depsite the threats saying you can't backup games for personal use, if you don't pass it on theres nothing they can do so if he REALLY does own the originals then he is in the clear.
However if he loaned it to someone else and still used his emulated one.... well it gets complicated, best just to use the original.

The whole thing is on legal shaky ground.

The bottom line (to my limited knowledge) is:

It is illegal download roms from the internet (although it never stopped me ;))

It is legal to make your own copy/copies of your own game for personal use only although it's illegal to sell/purchase the equipment that allows you to do so. So, contact Nintendo/The copyright holder with proof you own the original game, & they may provide you a copy in disk format. Or, make your own cart dumper, which you can prove you yourself will be the only user.

See here for more info (http://www.overclocked.org/emufaq/EmuFAQ_Y2KAddendum2.htm)...

Actually its illegal for them to transmit the game over the internet, its not illegal for you to download it if you already own it.

You could be prosecuted for indirectly assisting the person transmitting the game via the internet.

There is no 'best' console. The X-Box has better numbers, but you don't buy a console just for the fancy effects it can do (you'd better not anyway).

Looking ahead, I'd say the Gamecube will have the most unique, different titles. Nintendo are comitting themselves to offering something the others can't in terms of new experiences and styles of game, so it's certain that among the hardcore market the GameCube has some kind of future, but that's also the road the Dreamcast went....

The PS2 has had a bad rap from the fanboy sector, and really hasn't yet produced any outstanding titles to call its own, though MGS2, Silent Hill 2, GT3, and FFX will undoubtedly pick the system up, and with ultra-cool looking titles like Exo and Herdy-Gerdy in the future, it looks like the PS2 will hang on.

The X-Box is the dark horse, but there are a couple of promising titles for it. notably Malice, Project Gotham (a sequel to MSR) and Halo, so I can see it coping well.

Sega look like they're making an equal commitment to all three consoles, with different titles cropping up all over, so that'd good.

I dont believe that there is a best console because I personally think that all consoles have something different and good to offer.

Each and every console have classic games that are exclusive to them and that imo makes them all good.

We should all be happy that we now have a bigger choice and range of games to play now.

Yeah, there is no top console.
You just buy the one to have the games that appeal to you.
I got a PS2 because i'm impatient and can't wait for the X-Box and Game Cube.
Besides my favorite games are all coming to the PS2 exept for a couple. Hey, maybe Nintendo will go like SEGA and i'll get to play Zelda on it (One of my favorie games)!

are you talking about dark cloud?

Zelda King

I read about Dark Cloud in Gamesmaster mag. It's meant to be a blatant rip-off of zelda. I don't know why games companies can't think of their own game ideas without ripping off others.
