Hi I'm interested in putting linux on my system, I know I have to partition my drive, however I was wondering would it better if I stick another hard-drive in as primary slave, and install it on that instead?

Thanks for reading my question.

Installing on a second disk avoids the hassle of repartitioning, but may involve some extra complication. I think most installers will handle it, though (anyoe care to confirm?) It also reduces the chances of wiping out stuff you already have.

Of course, you then also have the cost of another disk.

Well to answer aef and yourself I know Mandrake and its graphical installer has DiskDrake for choosing the drive to install on with a graphical partitiong process with lots of Filesystems available for you to try eg reiser fs and ext2

im not sure about other distros, i know progeny (?) is debian with graphical install, but mandrake installer makes partitioning any drive really simple

Well I'm a total newbie, and I used Partion Magic to partition my drive (it makes all the Linux drives and swap partitions and everything) and it's on fine.

NO GRAPHICS THOUGH!!

Someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE answer my other thread :E
