Sad news concerning Whitey [Archive] - Wireplay Community Forums

This is a part of an email that was sent to myself, gxx, bug and a few others. The person writing it is his brother. It has been confirmed that it is his brother.

You don't know me but you know my brother, Simon, aka Whitey. I think some
people knew him as Mike because he preferred that name to his real one. If
you request proof im Whitey's brother then im not offended at all, just
email me and ill send you his irc logs from his computer or something.

I'm sorry to tell you but Simon died a couple of days ago in a motorcycle
accident. Im not sure if you are aware of the details of his trip away..
but as far as we were aware he was going to tour France but at the last
moment changed his mind and decided to tour Italy on his motorbike. He left
last week and we had had a couple of emails from him Monday. We do not know
the exact details of the accident itself, except we are informed that it was
a collison with a car and that the driver was not at fault. He had not
ridden a motorbike for 3 months and we think this could be a major part in
what has happened.

As you can imagine the family is very upset but I thought it wise to take
the time to write to you and let you know what has happened, as I am aware
he had a great deal of friends on Wireplay. Indeed, Counterstrike and its
community had become one of his main focuses in the past 2 years because of
various events in other parts of his life.

It was always fun to spend an evening watching him play CS, as he gradually
improved and become a very decent player, often winning various bits and
pieces at local lan partys. He was even trying to get me in a CS clan before
he went away as he was teaching me very well.
When i watched him online, I hardly ever saw him say a bad word to anyone
and as far as i know he had no enemies and made an effort with everyone and
seemed like a very fair admin to me, his attitude always did inspire me and
always will.

Anyway, I would like to thank the WP community myself for making my brother
happy, while other people around him failed. I know he put a lot of heart
into helping Wireplay Counterstrike.
You are welcome to do what you wish with this text and im sure the family
would be grateful for any condolences. If anyone wishes to pass them on,
could you send them to me via this email or give me an URL and i will print
them for use at the service.

If you need anything from his computer then just email me, as I will be
formatting it and selling it in a couple of weeks and withdrawing from
online play myself.

This is indeed a sad day for wpcs. Whitey was well known throughout the community as a really friendly guy, a good cs player, and someone who was always ready for a laugh.
I have known Whitey for most of the time I have been on WP/CS and we got on really well. It hurts that this should have happened. I know he was really looking forward to this holiday.

Whitey hasn't had it easy in his life but he always enjoyed cs and the people he played with. I hope he has gone to a better place. He will be dearly missed by all.

I can speak for the rest of the ECSF guys in saying that we are absolutely gutted at hearing about the loss of Whitey.

My thoughts go out to his family and I hope that when they read these posts they will know that there was a great deal of people who knew whitey as such a sound bloke and a great player.

Whitey was a great chap and a good online friend of mine.

I will miss his humour and his witt and most of all him just being a nice person who was never to busy to listen or help.

I wish all his family and people close to him my sympathy in these dark times.

It is awful when this happens, Whiteh was a top bloke and even though i dint know him too well whenever we did speak he made ya feel like one of his mates, absolutely faultless fella and a terrible loss.

Whitey was the the first person that i really truley got on well with, we used to talk for hours at a time, sorting each others problems out, i just cant beleive that something this tragic could ever happen to such a great mate, ill always remember one peice of advice that you gave me mate, and ill never EVER forget it, and how much of a mate you where to me....... i cant stop the tears now so what the hell....

i heard about this off wazzoo earlier today and informed my clan of the sad news and we are all gutted about this
whitey had only joined ECSF recently but straight away fitted in well with the rest of the clan.
He was a real friendly bloke and all of ECSF will miss him.

Whitey was one of the best friends I actually made on CS, and probably always will. Always friendly, always there for you when you needed a word, an overall great guy. The news brought a tear to my eye as I read.. RIP Whitey, you'll be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Well, I have been playing in Wireplay CS for around a year, And Wireplay for over 2 years...

When I joined WPCS one of the first people I saw was Whitey, and he was one of the nicest guys around, still is aswell!

As my time lengthened on WPCS I got to know him better and better, whenever we played cs we would end up dieing loads becuase we used to chat far too much :)

He was never horrible to anyone, fair admin like his brother said and just a guy that can't be disliked..

He will be greatly missed by all the wireplay community I feel with quite certainty..

Condolences to his family and friends, can't imagine what they are going through ;(

I cannot believe this news, i was speaking to him for ages about his holiday in wpcs before he said his final see ya.
I got to know him a lot in the past few months and he was a great guy, obviously my thoughts go to the family of this great guy, and to all the people that knew him personally and on irc.
I even told him good luck and enjoy your holiday mate, looks like it didnt help him. :(

Whitey was 1 of the few people i got along with on this board, especially when it came down to my sense of humour. Think we spent about a month, the 2 of us, running around the board and "demeaning" every thread we could lay our hands on. He had a care free and good willed spirit, u couldn't deny that.

Even on ICQ, we had are usual "gimp talk" conversations, amoung the more serious 1's, mainly about life or even WPCS. In 1 conversation he said to me
"Del, dispite the fact that u keep trying to hide it, ur, down to earth and a good peep to talk to."
He said this to me along with other words of complimation when i was deciding to take up the offer to become a mod or not.

Words of kindness like this, u don't hear from many peeps on the net, even fewer in RL, Whitey was 1 of a kind, u couldn't ask to met a more decent or caring bloke.

I'll miss u Whitey.

Completely stunned, no one that special, kind and humourous ever deserved to die, epsecially at such a young age.

Although the good time will always be remembered, by me and i'm sure many other people of the Wireplay Community.

I erm...I really can't believe what I have just read. One of the best guys I have ever had the pleasure of working with within the WPCS community has passed away. I am basically saddened.

He wanted what any admin wants from WPCS, and he tried to make CS more enjoyable for players, more clean, more satisfying...

He was a laugh to be with...and when me and him admined
]SEC[ vs VETS half-drunk we had the best game to have ever admined...

My thoughts go out to family and friends oh Whitey and he will be forever remembered for the contribution towards making WPCS a fun place to play :(

Well well well.... ive got the lump... words are meaningless i spin around wandering how many seconds of my life ive wasted. Right at this moment m8 im reading your thread on the admin forums..

on Wednesday or Friday im fecking off for 3 weeks!!woohoo! Im getting a ferry over to france with me motorbike, and just touring round France for a few weeks....No more annoying wallhackers or pesky kids swearing at me in irc, and no more traffic jams and fumes in my face when i go out

When we got the email from his brother none of us could believe it ..and in all honesty we hoped that it was somehow wrong but sadly it wasn't..

I still can't believe it now, he always had a joke and a laugh and was the type of bloke that would always try and lighten the mood with some jokey comments, knew when to have a laugh and when to take things seriously.

Used to joke about with him all the time, but also had some more important conversations with him and he always had time for other people.

As an admin he always tried to help and would never let us or the community down, it is a sad loss to me personally and especially to the community.

My heart felt condolences go out to his family and I hope whiteys brother passes on some of these posts to show his family just how much people regarded him around here.

You will be sorely missed whitey but you go to a better place.

I didn't know Whitey very well but I respected him a lot as a good admin and a well renowned figure in the CS community. I really hate when this kind of thing happens, it's not the way things should be, good people don't deserve that kind of fate.

My best wishes and condolences go to his family and Dan for taking the time in writing the e-mail to inform those few that he had passed on. It's a hard thing to do in anyone's books and something I hope no one else in the commuity has to go through.

Here's to Whitey and to all the joy he put into everyone's lives, he will be sadly missed by one and all.

It's always strange when something such as this occurs. I knew Whitey as I know most ppl about the WP Community. He was always good to me, and I spoke to him many times. I will miss out late night CS sessions, he was a great bloke and will be truly missed by all.

I spoke to Whitey on occasion and more often than not read alot from him on his forum posts and found him a very well humoured guy. I remember reading his thread about which bike he was taking and how he was looking forward to it.

When I left school, the only guy I classed as friend died in similar circumstances, at a similar age.

My eldest son carries his name.

So when I read that email, I was completely gutted. I had the pleasure of getting to know Whitey as part of the admins and part of my clan. It was a real privilege.

I have two sons of my own and top of my list is the nightmare of thier loss.

My heart goes out to his family.. I cannot imagine how they must feel.

Whitey has embarked on the final adventure... I am sure he would appreciate the humour... and not locked in chasecam on some newbie.

I'd seen this a few days back and really didn't want to believe it - I was really hoping this was just some sick hoax, but it seems not :(

Whitey was in tbZ for a few months, always pleasant to talk to and I did ride motorcycles for several years, so I know exactly what was going on his mind when he set off on this holiday, and how much he'd have been looking forward to his time out there.

It's very sad, always very sad when someone young dies, and you're left wondering what they'd have made of their lives, if they'd have raised children, and who they'd have affected in their later years.

I only can hope that when my time comes, people will speak so well of me. Whitey was obviously a well liked and well thought-of person. My heart goes out to his family at this time.

I cannot believe that this has happened. It was only a couple of days ago that i was talking to him, he was saying that he was going to redo his photo page of all CS peeps when he got back.

I am honestly quite shocked by all of this. I remember when I were starting my old clan up (Janus =J=) and at the same time Whitey and Arcticfox started =M=. At the time I were chatting to Whitey and making jokes about the clan names and which would be the most sucessful.
I only came back to the CS community a few weeks ago but when I did I noticed he'd made it into ECSF and had become an admin.

Hmm I don't know what else to say other than best wishes to his family and friends etc.

well, i cant say i knew whitey, but on seeing this thread i thought id better give my condolences on behalf of my clan to whiteys friends and familly.

any sudden death like that is tragic, how one moment somebody you know can be there, and the next their gone from the face of the earth.

Whoever said that an online friendship isn't real obviously hasn't been online. Something like this is a horrible thing to happen to anyone. I'd seen Whitey around on the servers... like others, never really knew him, but am deeply upset nevertheless.

It's not the fact that he was a gamer/cs player/ WP... it's the fact that a kind hearted human being has lost his life.

You will be sorely missed Whitey. Just hope you find a happier place in heaven!

Well well. Words were not made to describe this type of thing. Online community's are often ridiculed as having no meaning and being somehow "not real". To all of us this is of course rubbish. We all have good friends on here. I only hope Simon's family can take a small crumb of comfort in the knowledge that this community fells deeply the loss of a great lad.

I knew him quite well from tbZ and Admin work but from before that too. I had a pop at him when he left tbZ. I deeply regret that now although I am really pleased that maturity got the better of me and I sought him out to apologise.

I only really met him properly the other week when he popped into our irc channel before a match. He was instantly likeable, a very nice guy.

Hi, i am Whiteys brother, Dan.
I would like to thank you all for your response, it is truely, truely a great comfort and i have printed this all out and i will pass it on to the family, who i am sure will appreciate it as much as i do.

He had always wanted to go to Italy, so in a way it is fitting that he passed away there. I personally feel he'll be happier in heaven than he ever was here.
With regards to the funeral...this has divided the family but he will be laid to rest in Italy. He had always wanted to go there and was never really happy in the uk these past 2 years, so those who knew him will understand it is the best thing to do.
I do not know the exact location yet but when i do i will pass it onto wazzoo... So if your ever visiting Italy you could always stop by and say goodbye in person.
I myself will not be going to Italy as i have a child to look after and things to do this end, perhaps i will manage to get away in 6 months, lifes a bitch eh..

I will be continuing to play online myself as i think it is what whitey would of wanted as he put in a great effort to teach me this past year.

I never knew Whitey personally, I had spoken to him a few times, so I'm unable to form an opinion about what he is saying.

Although I do find it a bit odd. I've travelled, I've been abroad. It's not so amazingly different you can't send an e-mail to your friends. As forgetting a wpcs-core e-mail addy, I find that highly unlikely.

You could guess them, that would have got through no problem. I suppose the ultimate test is if IceWind posts here under Whitey's logon. Nothing has changed here, so his account will still be registered.

As to how i found blueyonder. Well wasn't exactly hard. Quick trip onto irc and a whois on names i could remember till i found someone who was on, then saw what rooms they were in. Isn't exactly brain surgery...
As for my other name, 'icewind' it was just something i picked when i registered on BY, no meaning to it.
