I still haven't got on to AO yet but just wondering which area is the best starting place for someone who's never played before?

The Neutrals have the funkiest starting area :D

But you will have to keep upgrading your map reading skill if you want to change sides and have a mp of your sides area ;)

I wouldnt reccomend Omni-1 (Omni tech starting city) because it seems to be by far the laggiest city in the game, from what I saw of it it was quite boring and empty too ;(

Hi

Personally i think being a neutral is a bad idea. As Mad_Izzie says you'll have to spend money upgrading maps etc (dont think its that cheap ?).

Also the only reason that Funcom put in the neutral faction, was so that those who could not decide which side to go on, had a little time to think (its not that hard to decide is it? ;P)

In the long run, sticking with neutrals screws you in pvp(player vs player combat) as when you are one you can't attack clan or OT, even if they attack you. On the other hand there are not too many pvp zones/areas..

One other thing, as your gonna eventually change sides in the end anyway, is it not gonna get annoying having to learn a new city lay out (with surrounding zones) ? Some people love exploring and getting lost but imo, its real boring and makes me frustrated. I like knowing where everything is hehe

Soo dont think that you can play neutrals for good :P

As for Ot's cities being the laggiest.. i disagree. Clan's (eg tir ;/) is really bad too. All of the "big" cities for each side(dunno about neutral?) give a real low fps. Alot of people say thats due to memory leaks etc.

So er to awnser your question : Both clan and OT are good cities to start in and unless your into roleplaying then it really does not really matter which side you choose.

Could someone please explain what is meant by a "memory leak".

(c&p :P)
A leak is a data area that your program allocated but did not free, even though your program will not use the memory again. In many instances, the data area has no pointer, cannot be freed, and is no longer available for use, or the memory may be accessible but your program will not use it again, so it is just wasting space.

So i am guessing that Ao uses up a load of memory, makes it un-useable which leads to disk swapping, which slows down ao alot?

I think thats right =/
