Well I want a new console and I wanna make the right choice. Its either PS2, Xbox or gamecube. I don't realy wanna wait that long for Xbox or gamecube but they look good but so does the PS2 and thats out now. So if you could post saying which one you think I should get and why.
Thanks

Damn, you don't get much a choice, do you?
Ummm..... go with GC, I guess. Just because Nintendo is a good company. :)

If you have loads of cash, get a PS2 now and either a GC or Xbox later. There are probably 2 games for the PS2 worth buying, so at 300 quid, it's well worth it, and you can play all your old PS games with enhanced(the same) graphics. However, if you are a bit poor, buy a 2nd hand SNES or DC or N64 and loads of 2nd hand decent games, and wait until the GC and Xbox ship. By then, we will know wether the PS2 has sorted itself out. Then you will be able to make the choice based on what games you like. Most games will be available on all of them, but some games will be only available on certain machines. If Nintendo genius games are your thing, then the GC will be the only option. If mainstream gaming is your thing (along with Sony's complacency), then get a PS2. If you want to play PC style games on a console plus some potentially interesting and original looking games, then you may want to check out the Xbox.
Whatever you want, decide it on the games, because the difference in graphical performance between the machines will not be big enough to really be a deciding factor. The DVD capabilities of the PS2 or Xbox should not be a deciding factor either, cos you should buy a decent DVD player as well (since DVD will probably be the video media of choice for the next few years).
If you like a neat lounge with no trailing wires, the Gamecube will have a wireless control pad (hopefully with a frequency channel switch, so you can take it round to a friends and take over their game!).
If you like little blue lights, the PS2 is your only choice.

"There are probably 2 games for the PS2 worth buying, so at 300 quid, it's well worth it"

Classic quote :) I'll have to remember that one.

Well the DC is about £100 with about 8 good games available, about 2 more good ones coming up
The Gamecube is predicted to be £150 in other countires and £150-200 here. It is launching in Japan with about 3 good games, by christmas (just after US release) there will be 9 great titles for definate and by the UK release who knows, I'd guess about 15 so that is a console well worth getting.
The X-box is basically a more powerful PS2, seems to have the same shortage of good games, costs the same amount and plays DVDs.

Might help if you told us the sort of games you like, then we could pick the right console for you.

I wouldn't have said the PS2 had a shortage of "good" games, I just feel it lacks the awesome games that make Nintendo consoles what they are.

Regard to Xbox, Project Ego is looking like it could well be game of 2002 already!

I don't see how you can comment on a console until you know just what games are comin out for it, and of course...what they are like,

God...it's gonna be an expensive next 12 months for me!

No it doesn't.

By the time Xbox is released, I guarantee you the PS2 will be cheaper, and even if it isn't, you'll have to shell out another £30+ to access the Xbox DVD video functions.

Why not buy a Dreamcast?

Unless you're going to buy an import GC or X-Box you'll be waiting 'til at least March. (Probably longer for X-Box).
Buy a PS2 if you want a choice of games across all the genres.
If you like racing games, then a PS2 with GT3 for £299 will keep you occupied for months.
