And how about the extreme sport of sand castle building or crab fishing......

Shroud

Sand castle buliding is infact a 'sport' which involes a great deal of skill. i mean look at this (http://www.giveyourdreamswings.com/Sandcastling/2001/WeddingCastle/WeddingCastle.htm) fine example of a castle built from sand.

some tips-
Build a Better Sand Castle-
dig a big hole down to the water table, now make sure you don't do this to far away from the sea else you may have to dig a very big hole.
Using your hands like a front end loader, scoop out a large doublehandful of super wet sand from the bottom of the hole, pulling the sand towards you. Move that sand fast so you don't lose all the water before you get to your destination. Start building your castle on top of the mound of sand you dug from the hole.

Build a Tower
Flatten your handfuls of wet sand into pancakes by jiggling them with gentle pressure. DO NOT pound, push, pat, pack or pummel the sand into submission! The goal is to distribute the water consistantly through the patty so it settles into and binds to the patty below.

A tower is nothing more than a stack of sand patties piled on top of each other.Use smaller handfuls as you gain altitude so that the tower tapers at the top and doesn't get top-heavy and fall over before you get to carve it.

Build a Wall
Walls are used to connect towers to other towers and to create staircases. You can carve your name or rude words on a wall or tunnel through it as well.

Once again, pull a doublehandful of wet sand from the hole. This time, instead of flattening it into a pancake, hold the sides between your flattened hands and jiggle so that the sand takes a brick shape. Keep laying bricks end to end for the desired length of the wall, then lay another layer on top, repeating until you reach the desired height. To form a staircase, first carve the wall into a descending ramp, then cut in individual steps.

"stacked sand is happy sand"

Sport or not its hardly extreme. "Woh man did you just see the multi-story venetian textured hotel I just built?"

3f@ll
28-02-2002, 14:46
/me takes notes......use wet sand instead of dry sand.

No ur right sand castle building isn't extreme Rikishi.

Now bodyboarding that is extreme, great waves, can b very dangerous going down a 30ft face on a piece of moulded foam.

Now have u seen those surfboards with hydrofoils on, they're wicked, (for the big waves tho).

spinkee - wot does this term mean Shroud, is it relevant to sand castle building?

But we are talking about extreme sports. How about bounty hunting? lol :)

Shroud
05-03-2002, 10:21
i wouldn't really call bounty hunting an extreme sport.

3f@ll
05-03-2002, 10:32
OK then...................base jumping?

Shroud
05-03-2002, 22:21
Rex Tanner, head of Grand County's Search and Rescue, who has been with the team the last seven years. He casually rattles off the most common causes of demise: "Drownings, mountain bikes that fall off cliffs and fins, Jeeps, too." But he notes that BASE jumping has increased in popularity in the Moab area, and now accounts for 20 percent of rescues, or about four a month.

3f@ll

Now thats extreme

Shroud
06-03-2002, 21:29
Extreme Sports, non-traditional sports and activities that require participants to combine athletic skill with pronounced risk. Most extreme sports are not true competitive sports because the main challenge is not imposed by another athlete or opposing team, but by the inherent difficulty of the activity. Extreme sports allow and encourage individual creativity in the innovation of new manoeuvres and in the stylish execution of existing techniques.
Athletic skill with pronounced risk ? - does that mean jumping up and down counts, i could like move my legs in random directions (encourage individual creativity) maybe

Well they do have parachutes so it's not overly extreme...

But yes ppl do actually do that :)

Shroud
14-03-2002, 22:39
take away the parachutes, then i think it just comes into extreme

3f@ll
18-03-2002, 10:19
