View Full Version : Progressive maps...from dod forums

Lo, if you mince over to the official dod forum an idea has popped up on there regarding a progressive map feature...to cut a long story short it would be thus..
First map overlord or dog..if allies win then onto next map, if axis win then onto different map or overlord again, bringing a linear story to the server.

It could be done as the 1.3b maps are supposedly being coded to work on ver2..so imagine this if you will....

Overlord, allies win and axis pushed back, next map hill, where the allies must win to progress further inland, if axis win then its back to overlord..or something along those lines.

It would be down to razzy to get some custom maps on the servers and of course peeps can have a say what maps they feel would be good to progress onto..going back to overlord could be pretty naff etc if the allies lose so maybe onto a village map, followed by a city etc etc etc, i think you get the drift.
Of course it would mean admins sorting next maps on victory or loss etc but id be happy to do it anyway.

So how about one evening when the custom maps are sorted its tried out, say from 7 pm till midnight, with peeps coming in and out the server but with a progressive map cycle...could be good and get a few more peeps onto the wireplay servers-publicity etc..anywho over to you to see what you think....me shuts up.

oh i thought this was about the progressive spawning system on the maps whch has been used just 2 times in the whole game after they made a big fuss about it.


Tbh i would like to have seen it used more on the game rather than just in 2 maps since it could ahve been quite effective like on dog1 on getting the allies up that damn beach by letting them spawn at the base of the cliffs if they took the mg42 pit or the hill top that way makeing the axis defend more and also makeing sure the allies get reinforcments faster.

1.3b maps work ok with beta2 now, they just wont have the sandbag entities etc.
so if you wanted you could put all the old maps on the servers and still play them :)

Tell me what maps you want on there (and where to get them) and i'll put them up :)

what he said i hate them maps and as such never play them . SO maybe a good idear for 1 srever , but not all ;)

nar i like them maps.....dog is great to be allied; really good maps to improve ur aim and skills etc.....but just them 3 in a row would realleh pi$$ meh orf :P

doh think about it-its not going to be on all servers, and if allies dont win overlord or dog then ill parachute them behind enemy lines for another map-if they lose that one then they probably get slapped back onto a beach etc..im testin a few maps out and ill see what they like...dont slag it till its written down, i wont bother if no one wants it on just that for one night it may be fun, only taking a few hours....and it will be run past mikkk before anything is sorted, as of now its just an idea.

Sweet idea Bloke ... one server, one night ... special event style perhaps ... maybe even boost up number of players to make it more interesting? :smokin:

that sounds pretty good really. It would be interesting to see what the old maps are like with dod2 :O. Hill would be well hard to attack with mgs and the airstrike... they should make a new version of it imo.
