I'm 17 later this year and am wondering about buying a 125cc bike or a cheap car. Anybody care to comment?

My car or bike? I have to say that if I was 17 again and had the choice of only one I'd plump for a car. Depends on how much travelling you have to do. Do you need to travel to get to work? That's the sort of thing that makes the difference. You'll get die-hard bikers who insist that they travel by bike come rain or shine but it's not much fun if you've got to do it day in, day out.

Bikes are great but I couldn't live with just a bike. It's more of a weekend plaything for me.

I'll probably have to get an evening job or try to make a bit this summer, but I'll be at college most of the time which is well within walking distance.

Got to say I was out yesterday and I was rather taken with the Aprilia SR scooter in the showroom, looks just like a paddock (sp?) bike. Just might get one of those. :)

I'll prolly get on my mums car insurance anyway and it's not like she uses the car much so that'll be mine for longer trips.

Then go for it :)
I sold my car to get my first bike (GSXR 600) cos I knew I was insured on 2 other family cars. I would never have done it without the use of another car though.

I think I might, now I just need a couple of grand and I might get an SR125, looks like a paddock scoot with the full aprilia race livery. Plus it'll do 75mph so it doesn't hang about.

On the other hand whilst out on my mountain bike earlier I saw 2 scooter riders and they were being pr1cks, doing burnouts on the mud at the side of the road ffs! So that put me off rather, plus I could keep up with them in a straight line, stupid little 50cc things.

I suppose I better get saving then. :)

Oh, and you had a gsxr 600 and got a faster bike!?!?! :E

Nutter :E

Yep :) and it's getting faster too.

It currently looks like this...

...then this...

...and soon this...

Then it's off to circuits all over the place for a load of trackdays :)
Had it all re-geared for more acceleration too. Took one tooth off the front sprocket and added two teeth to the rear. Still pulls 150+ top end as well.

Looks great Desmo, :) have you got a road legal bike? :D

Well, it only take about 30 mins to swap from track bike to road legal so it's just the one bike for me. I wanted to get a dedicated track bike but couldn't justify the extra cost, especially with the Duke just sitting there and I'll be buying a house soon too so I thought sod it, I'll race around on what I've got :)

V nice. I'd love a 125 race rep thang, but really can't justify the sheer cost of it, the insurance will be mental :( So it's either scooter or something like a Cg125 for me :( and then I wonder if it's even worth getting a cheapo 125 or won't it be any fun?
