Payday today and I got a decent bonus, so I am going to treat myself to a new game.
The problem is that I dunno what to get :rolling:.
I don't know if I want a flightsim or a fps or a strategy, I have no idea.
Is there anything that you would go for?
Rex.

Not a game genre I would normally go for Kazza, but having looked at the website I must say it looks very impressive.
Can you briefly explain to me and others the basics of playing a game like Dungeon Seige and what it entails. Will there be clans/leagues etc. I am a newbie :E.

Doubt there will be a league... there'll amost certainly be clans, and alleigences and there will definately be team play. But teams will be flexible more on an impromtu basis.
The main problem is that all the data will be client based so peoplc can hack items and cheat profusely... Diablo2 tried to avoid this issue and on the whole have done a pretty good job but there are still cheese-ups.
I think it looks brilliant... mainly because of the lack of tedious drawn out stories (a la Baldur's gate) also the fact that it doesn't have a really poor attempt at 3d (a la Diablo2) it also has nice features like at the end of a battle you can press one button and all your characters go and pick up the goodies rather than having to click on each pile of gold individually.
At the end of the day it is a glorified hack and slash... pick up a sword and kill a bad guy... your healer will heal any injured and you'll find a bigger sword to hit the next person with.
One massive advantage of this is that there is very little skill point allocation which alienates a lot of players... all the formula on Attack damage = Base damage * (dexterity-100) + the number of days in the month - the number of letters in your name rubbish... what Dungeon seige does is, as you use a skill/item you become better at it... so all character start off equal but if one doesn't use many spells but only uses an axe he'll get good with axes and build up those skills... if you then need him to be a bit of a spellcaster you force him to throw a few spells and he starts to use those skills more.
Can't wait myself :) however if the money is burning a hole in your pocket I can't really recommend anything at the moment...

Max Payne - Because you get Dual Berettas to avenge the death of your wife and baby, did I mention the sawn-off shotgun and dual Ingram machine guns?.....Dribble, drool......
OK I like FPS + TPS - sue me :)
If you haven't played it, it's quite good, so is RTCW (only quite good).
I'd stay away from people who knit their own muesli and smoke pipes, if you fall in with them you'll be wearing a chunky cardigan and corduroy trousers long before you ever slaughter a dragon.

Every one falls around laughing and beats Bitty over the head with The Mirror of Erised and then feeds him to Norbert.
It's guns I tell ya! Not swords or breeches.....

I have played the Max Payne demo and it is amazing, problem is that 90% of the time it is all about leaping around corners and blasting people with your weapons in slow motion and gets a bit repetative.
In all seriousness HP isn't that bad.
Moving on...
That "Theme Space Station" game is absolutely brilliant, v addictive, and I can't remember what it is called now.
I also recommend Populus: The Beginning.
Sorry for all these budget games, its just that all the recent stuff is complete Tat.

DS does look awesome. Pre-ordered it it (best prices posted in the funky DS forum (http://forums.wireplay.co.uk/forumdisplay.php3?forumid=346&daysprune=30) )
Played Max Payne + RtCW, both of which were fun, but never was enough to keep me interested ot the end. A few clan mates say that Medal of Honor is a bestter singlke player gmae that RtCW, but Wolvie much better multiplay, so take your pick if you go the FPS route.
Go beard, Go sandals, Go DS..... :)

It got 94% in PC Gamer 6 weeks before it went Gold.

It's not the genre, it's 'the mood' you have to consider.
Do you want to have an intense half-hour bash, or the kind of game where you spend slow hours of carefully moving through the level (eg Serious Sam II or Thief)
Do you want to tax your brain heavily or chill out (an RTS or a plane/train simulator)
Do you want a cracking story or more emphasis on participating in action (Planescape: Torment or Dungeon Siege)
It all depends on what you already have. Try something you don't do with the PC yet....
The multiplayer in C&C Renegade sounds good, although haven't played it myself.
FPS - System Shock 2
Strategy - Ohhhh.....Shogun: Mongul Invasion is quite good / Red Alert 2 is still the best classic RTS I've played
Budget Stategy - Theme Hospital!
Desperados is surprisingly addictive if you're looking for something a bit different, and not as difficult as those fiddling Commandos games I've heard.....
Or just go get a GBA :D - good games left, right and centre, unlike the currently rather stagnant PC market

go to some abandonware sites and play the classics like Elite, the Dizzy games, or old graphic adventures :D
If u aint played it already, then Deus Ex. Takes ages to complete a level if u try and find all the secrets.
Then theres Medal of Honour - not very long, but worth buying just for Omaha Beach :)
medal of honour is superb, im playing thru it atm. if anyone has any info on mafia then that would be cool cos it looked amazing a few months ago

I highly suggest Baldurs Gate 2, the best singleplayer game I've ever played. It's also a very big game, which means you cant finish it in 10 hours or something like Max Payne.
Heh, I remember when I first got it I got sooooooo addicted.. I played like 4 hours a day. BUY IT! :p

Startopia, it's a beast, and no-one bought it, hence little addons :{
Ace ace game.
Rex if you got a huge thing you may like to think about a GBA/GBA-SP. Games are getting super cheap, and there's some good classics.
Also heard tell there may be a GTA-Advance coming out :-/
Okay so I was only reading for like ten minutes before I noticed it was 2003 now and not 2002 :rolling:
