erm, my ident keeps changing everytime i connect to quakenet on irc, it used to be Tenshi@modemblabla.12334.dial.co.uk etc etc
(i am on freeserve at the moment)
however it keeps changing for some reason now whenever i connect to irc (i've been through many such as spoons@modem.... etcetc..) it's not really much of a problem, just slightly annoying.,..
my e-mail, name in options are both 'Tenshi' as well as my nick, and identd user id (the drag down identd button of connect)
i can't seem to figure out why it is happening, i don't have any scripts installed atm. i may try to re-install irc again laters :{
cheers

on the plus side it makes it hard to ban me for channels ;)

I had that problem before, went away after a couple of days, and I never found out why it was happening ;(

I've got no idea but I shall make a guess :D
Maybe if someone is already using that particular ident it assigns you a random one?

Dunno though, just a very rough, uninformed guess :E

Ok not really a solution or suggestion but I'm gonna try and explain how the IRC servers should obtain your ident.

First thing it checks is port 113 (or whatever port you set an ident server to in mIRC options) if it can resolve an ident from that it uses your username there. failing that it should check your e-mail address and put ~ in front of the first section (i.e. the bit before the domain) of the e-mail address entered, e.g. if my e-mail was set as "Tenshi.is.lame@hotmail.com" I would get the ident "~Tenshi.is.lame" (it would probably crop that actually since its a bit long :))

otherwise I have no idea why it won't give you a constant ident, make sure your firewall isn't blocking port 113 and that u've enabled the ident server.

(Oh, and Strembles is way off the mark on his guess :E)
