Hmmm, well what happened here then?

Was it the business case crumbling around the BT accountants?, well i never !!!.

None of you will know me, I was originally involved in wireplay from 1997 (pre-wireplay) to 1999 as both a player and a Gamepro / Community Liaison.

I personally would like to see the brand wireplay back up on the pedestal that it was on in the early years.

The business model for online gaming has completely changed, I'm sure you all know that all of these type of services have either gone by the wayside or become ISP's in their own right.

Well, from what I can see, you pay nothing, you get nothing. Originally, Wireplay or BT wireplay as it was, depended on a dialup which cost a damned fortune (2.5p per minute) and im pretty sure at one stage it was higher. It was regular at the time to get phone bills of over £500 per quarter, but one thing was for sure, it was a viable system and for the brief time that BT actually looked after it, it was heading somewhere.

I personally would love to become re-involved with Wireplay, I'm well past my twitching days of HL and TFC, now it's nerves that twitch, not the mouse finger ;D.

You get very nostalgic when you see something, a pioneer, of online gaming having a rough time of it and I for one would really love to help make it what it once was.

So, whilst some of you will read this and think, wtf is some old git doing writing this crap, take 2 seconds out, think about what wireplay could be again, then hit the reply key and send me into flamedom..

Be well

im loafing in the realms of DAoC and the weirdy beardy lands, god knows why, wish he would tell me....

I miss the absolute aggro I had when doing the HLCCL (Half Life Clan Collision Leagues) for the first time and the constant madness of multi player frag sessions.

Gone are the days when Adrian (Drilla), Uprising (James) and the rest of the BT motley crue were the names to drop..

I know a lot of the Gamepro people seem to have gone to blueyonder, Copcc, White gold etc etc. But i wanna see Wireplay back to where it was ;D.

As for normal work, im a boring salesperson matey, nothing that exciting ;p

Cheers

It is good to hear from people that used to either play or help run WP
It is my intention the make WP not only the UK #1 but #1 in the world.

Once we have approval from the new owners of WP then I will be able to "let rip" (as they said in my day)

your never too old to play games as those that know me will testify and its (sometimes) great to kick the youngun's arses again :P
as all they can do then is TK u as a result very funny to watch and then BAN

So keep coming and playing here as things will change.

Well I am not supprised at this comment from you Nor

You seem to be interested in only putting ppl down instead of praise for what they have done to what was and will be again a great brand.

U are never satisfied with what ever ppl try to do

Lo Digriz :)

I'd say bring back 1995-1996 Wireplay but it'll never happen so I've moved on from this somewhat cursed GSP.

It is my intention the make WP not only the UK #1 but #1 in the world.

Unem, that made me cringe tbh. Without trying to cause serious upset I feel I should mention it makes you sound like a child. Seeing as you appear to be the one running this ship that's not really an image you want to give to people.

I fear that you don't really know what your doing which will lead to the death of this GSP.. for the 3rd time..

Digriz is an old friend of mine from way back. I'm sure when he read what I said he took it in the way it was intended, same goes for Whitegold. I was a Gamepro myself for Wireplay for along time, hence the joke. A bad joke as usual, but still a joke :)

You weren't to know though, the only contact you've really had with me was when I complained about how the WP UO shard was being run.

The only reason I had to use Digriz001 is because the damn boards wouldnt let me use my original registered name , Digriz, BAH!!!..

Nice to see some more real old school people turning up, Hats off to Nor, a true fragmeister from what i remember and of course Mr D33, nice to see you J, how's thngs?..

Unem, I would love to hear more about who is currently backing wireplay and what kind of business plan there is to bring it back again.

I'll admit to being waaay out of the loop for some time and unaware of current developments with WP's owners.

Old age has set in for me I'm afraid Digriz and now I can't hit the proverbial barn door in any game you might want to mention. Theres quite a few of the old Gamepro lot doing the equivelent job over at by now, me included.

It would be nice to see Wireplay return to its former glory though. No-one will dispute that their best gaming times were here, if they can remember that far back.

I am sorry if that was the impression that you got, it was not my intention to patronise the statement.

It is my intention to make WP great again, and with the help of the new owners this is possible to do. There is a lot of damage control to do and a lot of bridges to be re-built. and with time this will happen.

That statement does not mean overnight, I know that it will take time to achive and I have a time scale of 3 yrs just to get WP noticed in the right light.

One thing that is different already from the previous owners is that we are listening to you and activily taking the suggestions and comment (such as this ) seriously, I am not infalable and I have some good people behind me to make sure that I am not going wrong in what I say.

They all believe that WP will be great again, which is what is needed in this nearly dead brand name.

I will do my utmost to make sure that it will work.

please keep comments like this coming so that I keep my feet on the ground with my head just below the stars

Thanks

Unem

Slightly irrelevant note, but where does the logo stand at the minute?

I saw gameplay are still using the ladder on their site...yet Wireplay are still using it also. So who's infringing who? Or did both parents get rights to that particular baby during the divorce? ;)

A very good point and something I've also been wondering for a while now.

Gameplay just kind of 'acquired' the ladder logo while I was working there as part of their rebranding 'ceremony', which as any of my other former GP employees will tell you basically consisted of the board of directors getting together round a table with a naked girl on it for eating sushi off of with 24-carat gold chopsitcks (probably ;) ) and saying "Right lads, lets chuck another million or two down the toilet by rebranding the whole company.... we'll need a new logo... didn't we just buy some company for no aparrent reason? what was it, Wireplay or saaaain? That's got quite a cool logo, let's nick it, we're not gonna do anything else with the company that's for sure, we might as well get something out of it!".

*ahem*
Sorry, er, rant over.
Anyway, I've been wondering who that logo actually belongs to at the moment? The new owners of Wireplay? Gameplay GB Ltd? Or those evil fatcat gits the still own Gameplay Plc?

Hmm....
