Cable yes, ADSL no (afaik), Northampton
aye, only ADSL though. My street isn't setup for cable yet. :|
I get cable from NTL in my area, but its prolly the worst place to have cable anywhere in the UK.
Since July I've had a 200 ping almost 24/7 and NTL are constantly telling me that its being fixed, evidently lying *******s :)

You're missing out peeps (http://home.btconnect.com/tompion2000/tbh/ping.gif) :D
Adsl here.
I was wondering, if you live in an area where both ADSL and cable are available.....
Would ADSL be the best choice. Assuming most people go for cable given the choice. Surely you would have more bandwidth to hog on the less busy ADSL service?
Or does the contention ratios sort this out?

As long as you choose a decent adsl service... for instance i'm on BT Connect Business ADSL 512k with a connection ratio of 50:1 rather than the lower home user ratio. So my pings are usualy the same as good cable connections as you can see :D

ADSL, yep, Cable, nope. Burnley (near M'chter). ADSL been fine for me for 2 years now. Quite ironic really, as the 56k I was on before gave me 3k+ pings, and yet as you can see I signed up for this account in sept 00. I was part of the WP TFC community for 3+ months before I even started playing TFC :-P

Infact i just inquired about having ADSL installed and was told that if there was enough demand for it then it would be looked in too, i then asked what was classed as "enough demand" and BT replied "roughly 250 people"well there arn't even half that amount of people that live in my hamlet.
Denied.

skeg is just as bad merc, BT set the target unrealisticaly high because all the local villages are connected to skeg telephone exchange, the forgot to take into the equation that these people all live outside of the range adsl will work over though.

Arbroath (small town near Dundee) and yes, the exchange is ADSL enabled (much to my surprise.)
Can't get anything. South-east England, into the country a little bit.
34 people registered for ADSL on my exchange. Cable would never be laid down here.
At home I could get ADSL, here in london most people have ADSL but can't get cable.

Just found out that Barnt Green area has *finally* had enough interest, after er about two years of waiting.
Looks like i'll be upgrading for Broadband hopefully from ISDN. Anyone know how much it costs and what the steps are to do it?
Live in NW London and can now get ADSL, do have an NTL teev box but apparently can't get a data connection in this area until NTL remove their finger from the oriffice into which they've inserted it
Recently moved (liek 15 minutes walk down the road, so still NW London) and ADSL was a no no because BT won't upgrade the exchange.
Makes me sick when all you people who live in the arse end of nowhere can get it but people who live in the capital are told to shove it :P

I live in sunny old knebworth and i have a nice ntl pipe running up my street with apparently 80 people on it (capacity = 200) so thats nice and fast.
I also pretty much back onto the local telephone exchange, so i can get ADSL upto speeds of 2meg according to BT :p
Which isnt bad for a lil village made up of mostly old ppl
by cable, and anyones adsl, in birmingham
no cable , no DSL, btw when BT say 250 "requests" they up it to 500 as my bro-in-law found out when he applied for it

Nope, my exchange (on the opposite side of town) is enabled for DSL but the cables running across Bletchley were spun by spiders so I am out of reach.

So still many cannot get it:(
I am waiting for our exchange trigger level to be reached, its currently 395 out of 400 so we are close, apparently BT have done away with confirmation process, so as soon as the trigger level is reached, they check over the info they have and go straight into the build process which takes 6-7 weeks to go live.
Seems also thay are now offering it free to connect now and a modem and installation for £50:)
Anyone wanting to check out their exchange go here

Are you sure about that FBF? I ask cos it would be very easy for somebody to go around a few ISPs and sign up people on the same exchange as them to reach the trigger level...
...now there's in idea for BT abuse in a good cause ;)

Our local campaign site took that info from Bts own site
http://www.torquay-broadband.co.uk/
quote:
Notes from B.T. Broadband Site
With immediate effect BT Wholesale will start the build process to upgrade any exchange reaching the trigger - removing the 42 day confirmation process. From January 15 a new order process will be in place by which service providers will be able to take orders from.. people wanting broadband after an exchange demand trigger is hit.
Can get it and have got it :)
