View Full Version : Development of the new land [Report]

Hey everyone, this is a locked thread that will be made sticky and updated occasionally to give you all an idea on what is going on with this whole new land we are making! Kind of like a developers diary you could say ;)

This land will be replacing the current "T2A" land - that is the lost lands.. This is basically an unused part of the map on lothlorien, although it is in use on OSI.

So far we have begun to plan out the locations of the cities on the map itself, dungeon entrances and so on. The map itself has been bug tested for any bad areas, and has passed and is now in full distribution amung the staff.

Fortress Village - Based in a circular part of mountain, this village is fully fortified with some cove like fortress walls and cove like buildings, the walls have been completed and the paths and basic structures of the buildings have been done. However none of us like roofing the damned things so they lack the final touches so far!! That will be a project for later! :D
The paths have been done around to the buildings, and the path has been added linking the town to the main roads in the land.
I will take some pictures and put them on a site and give you guys the links for it.

This village requires a name! Refer to our competition for this!

Main City - This has just been started by Fragalot, so far it has a very posh stone city wall, thats all thats been done so far, it is going to be partially built on the land and a part on the nearby lake. Names for this city and lake will be needed soon, will give more details soon as this city progresses!

Dungeon Entrance 1 - This is a small castle like building which takes the player from this new land into one of the new icey dungeons...

Mainland Entrance - Location for the entrance to this land has been found, no other details yet!

Basic Land Details:
We have very few ideas so far about the actual idea of the land, but some things we are prepared to release to the public: Firstly this land will be a lot more difficult then the land of Brittania.. an idea did circulate to make it skill based/level based to enter.. this was scrapped in favour of letting newer chars to explore and die lots :D Secondly this land will be more scripted, dungeons with some real nice themes and so on.

Recalling in the new land: DISABLED. As part of the idea of making this land harder (and may i add, richer and better for nice loot) you will be unable to mark and/or recall here! There may be some rare 'rune' drops which will fade after about 2 uses to this land (special locations).

There will be a maximum of 2 entrances to this land.. we are minimising the amount of entrances to the new land.

I shall post a picture of the land so you guys can get an idea behind whats in the land!

So far we have done a lot of work on this map (and its only been 5 hours since the city building started!) We expect this work will take 2/3 weeks minimum.

Well just to update you all on whats developed so far. Many ideas are currently kicking around the staff, a fair few of which i cannot disclose yet until more details about them are sorted out.

However what i can disclose is that there are to be many "rare" weapons and armours. Now by rare i do mean rare, we will be talking a maximum of 2 on the shard at any point in the game. They wont just be easy finds either, and they wont always be in one piece ;)


Developments on the actual land:
The capital city is really moving on now, a very rich and plush place, looks extremely nice, streets lined with hedges, the buildings made of the finest stone in all the lands. It is now reaching a good size and is still expanding!

Some interesting buildings have been dotted about the lands, the locations of these will be kept secret, players must discover them and tell their friends about them.


Creatures of the land:
There are going to be many new creatures based on this land. I cannot disclose what they will be and what they will be able to do, but they will virtually all be scripted with some impressive abilities (and perhaps some rather annoying ones!).


PvP in the land:
This is a matter that must be discussed among the staff. We are not sure about what status pvp will hold in this land. What we do know is that the land itself will be throwing up enough problems for players, so will have to look further into this matter before giving out final details about pvp here.


Scripts for the new land:
There are plans to release some older ideas with the new land (including the ancient and forgotten about necromancy script) - it may be released earlier, but dont expect it! It will most definately be ready with the new land.
The new land as stated before will be heavily script based, and as such i will need to spend a few hours doing such things for the land. However do not fear, i will still be working on the old classic scripts (poisoning etc!).


Story of the new land:
We have a fairly basic story written up about the new land and how it came about. This will be undisclosed for now until we have finalised it :)

The story for the new land has now come to completion and will be released soon to you, so keep your eyes peeled! :D

Also the capital city is REALLY coming along, now nearing the final stages of development in it and almost complete. It will soon be made static and patched up for the gm staff to use and check out while we finish the rest of the land.

In this picture you can see a thatched house - this is a very impressive tavern made by Fragalot - very sexy inside and out, with its own beer garden. Directly opposite is an amazing stables - nicest looking one ive seen in uo :D

A Second town has sprouted up around the shrine i mentioned in the last report - this has grown to be fairly large as well now and is looking very impressive!!! :D

After a long delay it is now time for another update :D
The map proceeds well (although has had quite a long hiatus) The first two cities are virtually complete and i am under the process of making them static (the program to do this keeps crashing so getting a bit annoying!!! AAAAAAARGH). Once this is done all current items in the map will be nuked and the second phase of development of the cities will begin. This includes new cities/nice find locations and so on. The old cities will be edited as well (right now its really hard to edit them due to the HUGE amount of items present.. we keep losing our characters there as they are flooded with too much info to process so hence the first static operation!). Once i finally manage to static it ill take some pictures (and some radar pictures) to show whats been made so far! Looks amazing thanks to all the staffs work on the cities.

Story development has undergone a lot of work and we have MANY stories based around the new land, many of which will involve some fairly nice drawn out quests (and some nice locations to fit!).

Some scripts have been already written for the new land (one of which is some fairly nice rare find weapons.. and when i say rare i mean RARE!)

Also with the new land some changes will be occuring to the old land. First of which is that no longer will you find skillgain items as easily. Also weapon runes are to be made differently. They will involve several components (some obtained through mining, some through adventuring, some through alchemy and inscription) and will be player made. This will be explained later in another thread once it is ready.
