Just curious about this one, as you all know GSP's usually use different methods of connecting to servers; some use a specific browser (WP3) to connect to the servers, others use Gamespy (BW), others user webpages (BY), others use a weird webpage thing which confuses me (MPZ).

But what do you lot prefer for connecting to your servers or starting up Peer2Peer games?

I personally prefer an external browser to a webpage but then that's just me. Vote! ;p Reasons would be nice too :D

Thanks monkees

External browser - yet to see a web version that is as quick to use as a standalone program is.

Gamespy everytime. Anything which can keep knocking automatically though...

external browsers all the way, i personally prefer ASE to Lamespy tho..

either way, browsers are better, especially if you can download plugin lists etc blah blah

External browsers, they're generally quicker, easier to use, better to customise to your own liking, and aren't restricted to what servers someone else thinks you should be playing on.

Oh and they're generally more reliable, because you don't need a webserver to get it working :P

external browsers, because they're loaded with features and made to do exactly what they do. Web browsers are made for um... browsing the web? :E.

In game multiplayer menu for me. I don't use web sites to view servers, and defently not to launch games. I don't use GSP's clients, and I only use ASE when I want to view all the names of the people playing in the server without actually joining.

All other times I click on the online games button, or whatever it is.

External Browsers are exponentially better to use, customise and design, so external wins hands down every time.

If I had to use a webpage, I'd be f*cked at uni as we have to map every IP address through a proxy... Gamespy is the way forward.

dont like the web ones.

Usually external ones like All seeing eye support a whole array of different games aswell, and since i play a good few games on line i prefer to use that :)

that and its faster ive found

Software browser for me, doesn't make sense to have some poor overloaded server slaving away that is far more likely to go wrong, may as well cut out the middle man and connect directly, far less frustrating.

Plus developing these things is a massive waste of a GSPs money and resources.

I was a Gamespy user and tried out ASE recently.

ASE is great, no annoying pop-up ads and it is highly customizable.

I love the way you can search for servers by country, I was playing on a Japanese server last night. My ping was 300 but it was fun.

ASE is the Way J5, Gamespy is truely b**l**ks

I don't like either, I edit the TFC shortcut with the server IP I want to connect to.

I keep a list if server IP's in a text file, and manually log on and check each one when I want to play to see what's on where.

Gives you a real sense of achievement and satisfaction.

OK, I'm lying, I use ASE.

I'd say an external browser atm, but i'd believe web based java type system would be the better in the future. Not seen a decent Web Based GSP type system, but how advanced you can get nowadays, if you'd got a good programmer there's no reason why something like gamespy couldn't simply be in a browser with exactly the same facilities. When you see other IT systems that have been converted over to web front end's, its pretty amazing to see what they can do.

peer to peer then from a website somehow.

Server based games then it has to be either GS3d or ASE. Something like WP3's great if your starting out but just has too much that I never use (why do i wanna view the site through that when it looks far better in my normal browser?) The gamesdomain/by/bw web things are useful but not something i'd set out to use.

of course wireview could come back and we'll all live happily ever after.... :)

Alright Alright, it was me that voted for Webby :P I have an enormous aversion to installing things on my p00ter and generally things like Gamespy cook my poor little head when I just want to click on a button and start shooting people :pikachu:

While its less than ideal I do quite like the BY interface..... and that Wireplay browser thingy was a pain in the booty :D

External broswer as they're highly configurable, faster to update servers, add irc scripts, put in your own servers, refresh a dozen servers once a second etc etc.

All Seeing Eye > anything else - external browser it is then.

use HLSW - but if i didnt know the ip to some servers and was just testing them out etc i would use a web page thingy like the BY one :O
