Interesting story coming up.

I downloaded a few old offspring tunes yesterday, from Americana, and it took me back to the days of playing my Sega Saturn in the bedroom. So I got my Saturn back out and, without a CD, it came up with the normal options.

Sooo I stick a CD in. Black screen. Another Cd, still a black screen.

I then discover that it does kinda work if I hold the CD tray lid down tightly it does kinda start to work. Then crashes.

So, erm, any ideas?

Saturn's are quality btw

No idea, but #ntsc-uk on quakenet is usually full of friendly types, and is probably the most active chan I've idled in.

Try a CD cleaner, probably has spiders and refugees living in it :)

Thinking about it there may be a button that is pressed by the lid when it is in position that allows the CD to spin up, see if you can find it, never used a Saturn so I can't locate it for you.

Aye my sister had the same problem with her dreamcast, if you push down to hard on the lid it will work but not for long! find the happy medium and the path to true gaming enlightenment is just around the corner.
Try using something with a little bit of weight in it and put it on the lid so it sits level, worked for meh anyways.

Dunno if this'll help but...

Could be laser alignment and/or motor on it's way out. The original Playstations used to suffer from this terribly. After a few months of constant use the first generation ones would be f**ked. It also happened if they were left standing for a while too (theres a nice win/win scenario for you, you knacker it by playing it and by not playing it, played Sony). Try turning it upside down or putting it on it's side, while it's switched on, that always used to do the trick.

Unless the laser is proper f**ked of course.

Aye my first gen playstation did this. Apparently the laser eye thingy had fell ( :/ ) deeper inside the console and further away from the disk and so couldnt read it. Thats why pushing the lid down really hard worked for like 5 secs :P I got mine repaired for £20 but it happened again a few months after so I bought an N64 :E

Bit late to reply but still...

..thanks for all the replies, it seems that sticking it on its side does actually do the trick. For sega rally at least.

Cheers all
