View Full Version : Anyone suffering poor pings from NTL?

Flomotion
19-01-2003, 16:37
Quite a few of us are unable to play at peak times, with pings soaring past 2000, and suffering 30% packetloss, even using low rates.

If anyone else on NTL is suffering these symptoms, PLEASE go over to the NTHell World (http://www.nthellworld.com/forum/) forums, and post in the 'Broadband Discussion' forum.

The only way it will be fixed is if people kick up a fuss.

Thanks :)

i must admit my pings have been pretty crap to most servers, with a fair bit of Ploss, the burstfire servers seem the worst hit, but apparently there are some 'clara-ntl routing issues' or some such carp which i understand nowt about.

Hate to say this but unless your very lucky your gonna be having the same problems as us.

I lived in Notts last year and had cable and my ping was 80 most of the time. Ping Chow Chi has the same problem and is in notts. I'm in Derby going through the Notts main frame thingy and having problems again.

NTL are just ****e

From Nottingham. Do get some really tupennce-ha'penny days though, and have had an annoying little lag problem in TFC, where it's 90% playable, but I get the odd jerky lag which is really irritating. Also if myself and my housemate try and connect to the same CS server our pings just keep going up and up until we packet out and drop. Random disconnects also own me :p
Much better than it was last term though, at least it's playable at times of day other than 4am now.

NTL have upgraded certain regions to 600k for a month or a fortnight I believe - promotional stunt.

Gokou
19-01-2003, 21:48
still - by the sounds of this thread - bloomin good for NTL? :P

might that be the problem? maybe they have over loaded their network with the upgrade of so many people?

Ace.dd
19-01-2003, 22:45
No.

There is no such thing as 512k if you're with NTL

Its 128k, 600k or 1MB.

They changed 512k to 600k to compete with ADSL, who advertise theres as 500.

I think I know more about NTL than some of their employers :D

[edit] Nevermind, I know what you mean know, there is a region in the northwest (I think) of England that have been upgraded to 600k for a few weeks [:)]

AMATOL

Am I right in saying that the peeps who suffer most with NTL are those with standalone cable modems ?

Mine's through the Digital TV set top box, and is sweet as a nut.

1mb connection, no loss, no choke, 125 d/l speed, worth every penny of £24.99 pm :D

btw, I am in an old Cable & Wireless / Nynex area, South Manchester.

our engy has been having some serious problems with his ntl cable recently.

Just keeps morphing around alot of our matches recently with his ping spiking all the time.

By morph i mean he runs a bit in tfc then gets put back the way for no reason (runs down short corridor then has to re run down it after he gets "morphed" back  )

as oggy said he stays in nottingham

UK Server 2 (www.bbc.co.uk):
