Just installed Sim City 4 having bought it today, and at the end of installation (ie 100%) it just goes back to desktop. This doesn't strike me as a problem initially as it could just be how the game installs, but then when I try and run the game the cursor changes to loading, then goes back to the normal cursor and nothing happens.
I've tried reinstalling, switched off antivirus but no use. Slightly irritating.
Any ideas? And while we're on the topic, any thoughts on the game?
Thanks, Gerrizen.
slightly silly in this day and age - but ur system meets all the requirements?

always a slight chance that its a bad copy....might have one kinda b0rked file. See if you can exchange it for another copy.
Outside chances, but anything is worth a shot!1
What version of DirectX u got?
Aye. Sounds like a DirectX issue

DirectX 8.1. Game wants 8. I edited the ini file to start in software mode and it works - but obviously not at the same quality i'd hope for from hardware.
Still, seems I'm not alone - SimCity forums all over seem to have many people with the same problem.
Thanks for the replies.

That's interesting I thought half the beauty of DirectX was it detects outdated versions and updates itself via the installer CD.
I have to say I am quite impressed with SC4, it's has so much more meat on it than SC3000 which I found to be a piece of cake, I could get a nice big lucrative setup in no time.
I'm still at that stage where people are farming with Ox-pulled ploughs and people poo in the streets on this one. Much better effort from Maxis.

It's got me really struggling to be honest.. as a newcomer to these games, the whole thing of zoning and getting em to work together is tricky.
I'm down into the red, and losing money fast.. maybe I started to fast, but i certainly was careful not to.
It's because you have to pay for things monthly now, read the manual and follow the tutorials if you're having trouble.

my mate downloaded it yestoday gonna try it some time soon.
Keeping in the black is pretty easy once you build about 4-5 new cities, learning where to save etc. But keeping them mega-happy is hard, can't get the rating above 40ish whilst still making enough money.
Give up though as it runs like plop on my abacus and the damn fires really annoyed me.
I bought this but my girlfriend confiscated it until my exams are over :bigcry:
