View Full Version : Idea for wp league...
Why don't we get people doing stuff like this (http://www.savageuniverse.com/viewcolumn.php?id=372), I know the so called pundits were supposed to do it but they seemed to concentrate more on interviewing clans and giving predictions rather than a more interesting style which Tay has used :O
I'm sure something like that could be done :)
League is being discussed atm with new format idea's being investigated, so don't worry we've not forgotten about the wptfcl. Keep any ideas for league or tfc.wireplay.co.uk coming in though :)

Ideas for league:
As in season one let the clans choose the maps that they want to play (i.e. home and away). Obviously this must be from a predetermined list of maps, put a few unknown maps in there to spice things up a bit. That way a clan will only know one of the maps that they will be playing until the last minute and should make things interesting.
I am also tempted to say "Turn FF off" as in season one, but I am not too sure about this one. Maybe turn of mirror damage on so if you injure a team-mate you get the damage and not him.
There are loads of things you could do to make a league more interesting and above all "FUN". TFC is long in the tooth and all the league are the same, lets make Wireplay a bit different and enjoable.

in fact lets proclaim ones self a saviour, make some really silly suggestions, and kill wp in one fell swoop :D
for the wp league to survive, it needs someone to get off their ass now, and do the fecking thing, not just sit around and mumble about it.

We are open to all suggestions for the league so please keep your ideas coming. We want it to be different and fun as well as competitive.

I think Rex raises some serious suggestions. If someone else had suggested them im sure the same reaction wouldnt of come. Im not too sure about FF. I think I would prolly leave it on as normal, but choosing own maps is good, however I would say choose them in advance not last minute. I would also say that you can only chose the same map twice so you dont end up playing the same map over and over. Brings in some strategy about deciding what maps to play against what clans. Maybe have some kind of playoff position too? So third place of each league plays the third lowest from the above lead to decide who goes up/down.
On that note, try as much as possiible to actaully keep to who goes up/down. This means initial clan placement needs to be closeley looked at. I think leagues that just re-organise each league every season takes away most of the point in trying to win the league.
will come back if i think of anytin else

playoffs to decide who goes in what division at start? Look at other leagues and see, then clans that feel they should be in next div can play a clan they wouldmost likely replace or something?
take a while, but wud get it near right
top(2) - am I now the saviour of WPTFCL?
no BAT :P I could just make it sticky if i really wanted it at top :)
take the play-off thing a stage further. If all divisions are of equal size, say 12(ball park type thang). Rather than use clans as the match structure, use positions instead?
Positions 1 to 8 (top 8 prem teams play each other)
Postions 8 to 3 (lower 4 prem play top 4 of div1)
Positions 4 to 1 (lower div1 play top 4 of div2)
etc
If you win a few games ,they get harder
If you loose a few, they get easier.
If clans drop its not a problem.
Have a list of maps that each clan must play at least twice or saink
ooo stats too!! add the logs from each match to a central database... IP's? mercs? :betty:

Sounds like a LADDAR to me :E
Just have a fk'off ranking which is grouped in to 10 clans at 1 10 at 2 etc. and then fight each other for half the dif of your oppo's points within a range of +5/-5 with a limit of 2 or 3 games a week, punishes clans who don't take part and forces everyone to get games in and think tatically about who they want to play rather than just where to put their 3 soldiers and 1 engineer :O

how about like south american footy
everyone plays each other once, then start again from stratch and play each other once more
then the winners of the two halves of the league play off for the title :E
would only work with alot of teams though
If you want to make it fun then why not have a totally different format to everyone else? Use Dustbowl, Avanti, Hunted, Concspirit (that new team based conc map race thing) and so on. There would be problems with making it fair because each week would be so different you might get some shock results but I'm certain people would join if not just to play certain maps they love in a league.
You could make the scoring system more interesting by doing something like this;
5 points for the winners.
3 points for a draw.
Losers get 2 points if they are within 1 cap (maybe 2) of the winners.
Losers get 1 point if they get more than half the points the other team get.
Losers get nothing if they get less than half the points of the other team.
That way, if you're losing there's always something to play for, and if you're winning there's a good reason to win by as big a margin as possible.
You could use this system either combining the results of two maps, or do it per map (so a max 10 points available).
I have one new system already put together, no decision has been made on whether to go with it yet it not though. It is more towards your suggestion Tonster, in that close games the losing clan still comes away with some reward, and more caps/less cap conceed = more points, so encourgaes clans to go for it and not to lockdown. Don't want say too much about it yet though until a final decision is reached, the refinements have been made and also possibly we're closer to launch stage. Also, theres the subject of whats happening to Wireplay which influences the direction this all takes. The point scoring format i'm proposing to my knowledge has not been used anywhere else before, but i do believe it's got potential. There are other alternative options to consider also mind :)

Yeh eat :l
nope, nowt like UKTFCL, i said it was 'new' :P
I've seen an early version of it and it's nothing used elsewhere and quite different. Sounds like it could work quite well however ;)
home / away map idea - not bad
turn ff off? - dont be silly.
