Ok so im driving along West Town Lane in Bristol, doing about 35. Fuzz car goes past, turns into road behind. I thinking **** there gunna pull me. And they did :/
Got me documents n stuff out ready. They tell me to come sit in the back of thier car. Felt like a ****ing criminal. Was in there abotu 20 mins talking about the car. They said that my number plates arent legal:-
http://www.teamfortressclassic.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/fplate.JPG
So im like "why?". Well the WPC says the letters should be black. Now im not **** hot on the road laws, but it os to my understanding that these letter are legal. So then she comes out with "oh the spacing is wrong" and the one that had me in fits "arent these the letters that cant be read by Gatsos?"
****ing bitch. She was giving me a ticket, when I complained to the sargent in the passenger seat saying that if she gave me a ticket I was gunna contest it. The WPC panicked a bit and look at the sarge and asked her what she thought. The sarge said it was her call. She said "right im gunna give you a ticket" (whatever ticket number it was" so i interruped and said fine ill contest it. Then she changed her mind, much to my satisfation and said that shes gunna check it out and that if she sees me again shes gunna pull me if i havent changed them.
Not going to change them coz she didnt give me the ticket :D
Well ****ed off. £50 they cost me :/

As mentioned above, I believe there has to be a bigger gap after the numbers to seperate them from the letters. Can't see why they are having a go at you when I see cars around here in NW London with the characters done in thin italics.
think it was the missing gap before the last three letters myself
load of tosh just like the window washer bonnet lights that are now "illigal" bollocks to all the bored bobbies i say bollocks
Don't the police have criminals to catch or something?

it was obvious the WPC was new to the job, and all police have to learn some how... so i dont know what you are moaning at :)
Unless you feel that people instantly know their job inside out the moment they start it? .... thought not :)

Police training should be done by role-play in the station....not wasting the time of innocent drivers. Besides, even if the dippy b1tch was a trainee, she should have more common sense than to pull him over for that..and the serg should have told her to back off him 19 mins earlier into the time-wasting.
I've also been pulled over for nothing more than one headlight being SLIGHTLY brighter than the other. I had to go through all the crap of "i smell drink on your breath...have you been drinking?"...even tho i had only been to the cinema and not touched a drop. Then it was "where u going..where u been?" bla bla. Funnily enough, this was another female jobsworth!...oh, in Bristol too......probably same old dragon!
When they got nowt on you as such you should always say Yes when they ask you if you've been drinking. Then once they're confused when it shows up negative, if they than ask you if your sure you've been drinking tell them you had a glass a milk before you came out :p

The WPC was not training or new to the Job. She was the one driving the car, for which you must be fully qulified. I know, my sister is one.
Mozz you h0m. Wait till i find you later ;)
Didnt get breathslised Steve. Was waiting for it coz the other two in car my were pissed as ****. Was looking foward to giving thier tube a good old blow!
Morale of the story is = nice car = you get pulled over and they rip you apart.

If you tell them you drank a pint of cider two hours ago they'll still breathalyse you...
You should have been busted and were lucky to get away with it. How long have you had your dodgy plate?s A mate of mine had to get rid of the spliff on his. ;0

Number plates fitted before 1 September 2001 need not be changed provided the character font used is substantially the same as the one shown above.
Number plates must be replaced if they have been customised with:
Stylised letters and/or figures such as italics
Number plate fixing bolts that alter the appearance of the letters and/or numbers Looking at BDs number plate the font is not too different to the standard font. So therefore if you claim they were fitted prior to Sept 2001 you should be ok. Doesnt mention anywhere in there about the letter spacing though so that might be covered elsewhere.
[/edit. Bah cant read it is in their about letter spacing and from what it says - 13mm between charactors and 38mm between groups so I spose BDs are illegal in that respect due to the group not being 38mm apart.]

Just to clarify.
The plates are illegal and will not pass an official Mot test

Just a little note for car freaks.
My younger Brother is "one of you" and attracted one heck of a lot of attention from the law, rightly or wrongly.
Fact is you guys are gonna get a harder time than most (why are you searching me officer, is it cos I is black) and frankly if you (as a collective, not individuals) did not have such a stinking reputation for being such complete and utter muppets you wouldn't have any problems at all.
FBF will no doubt be able to explain this one but there is also a mandatory British Standard for number plates now and any plates fitted must have the BS number visible (though sometimes its moulded into the clear plastic front it still needs to be there).
Anything without it is a nono, however I think the law is a bit of an arse in this situation - anybody who supplies these plates should be shafted more than those who buy them as it is their job to know the law better than anybody.
Oh and the plates look naff anyway mate, as do the grey stickers - lose them ;P

Lol the plates are awesome.
looks like im just gunna have to wait for the nest time i get pulled and get ticketed before im made to take them off.
Ive also told the company i got them from that unless I get a refund i will take matters further under the trades descriptions act as they told me the plates were legal.
LSM it is completely true that "us lot" get a harder time from the fuzz. They pull us just because of our cars, and they tell us that. I guess its the price we pay for the small minority of car enthusiasts that act like *****s.
Anyhows looks like im off down hlafords satarday to get some new plates made :(
Bitwah you suck ;p

Right on, try it on at least and see how you go, it is not unreasonable to expect the money spent on your plates back and I personally think they should make good any fines you incur as a result. However I feel this may be slightly more rocky ground, if you have it in writing that the plates are legal then that will help.

Sadly there are quite a few tw*ts involved in the whole cruising and modding scene. Whilst I have never taken part in one (old bones, not into road cars at all) I have witnessed what used to happen at gatherings in Milton Keynes city centre and I don't really have too much sympathy, a large gathering of car enthusiasts in a public place is not a pretty sight ;)
Look at it logically why are people going to make turbo nutter modifications and make their cars look like racing machines (sic) if it isn't to break some kind of law?
I agree though as with many things in life the minority do cause a bad name for the majority but there is no such thing as bad luck on this occasion, you are all very much in control and should be able to avoid a heck of a lot of the grief you get.
Good luck with it you jammy bugga :)

Registration plates are now much more difficult to get hold of,
you now have to be registered to make them, and buy them if you are a business, they have to carry a British standard number and manufacturers name.
If you want to get plates now, you have to produce the V5 and a form of ID such as a passport. It will have to met the standards so you will find it hard to get an illegal plate now.
Its a new law this year, came in on Jan 1st, but was deferred until February.
Quite what this is intended to do escapes me. Supposedly to reduce ringing of vehicles, but cannot see it working.

That sounds like a sensible movement in the right direction to me.
To help BD out when did this law come in FBF? Cos there is nothing stopping people making plates that you can hang in the place of a legit one but obviously it wont be legal.
Presumably if BD bought his after the law came in he has a strong case against them?

Ive done a bit more research. The plates were made after the new legislation came in. When I proved the proof of ownership of the plate, they did not ask me for persoanl I.D (i.e driv lic), so already thy've produced the plate illegally. Theres a few other things as well, but its all getting complex now. DVLA have been informed so its likeley that the company will get a warning, meaning if they do it again they lose thier license to sell plates. Trading Standards are now also involved too. My case looks quite strong, so im gunna fight it all the way :)

I was under the impression that the law was deferred until this month, could be wrong though
Hopefully you will get a result BD
