I spend a lot of my time travelling on public transport to and from work, so could do with a bit of new music to listen to on the way, and I haven't got a clue what type I want to get.

So...

...if you had to convince me that your preferred genre of music was better than all the rest of them, what two songs out of all of the available ones would you want me to listen to?

Any genre at all - whatever you like the best :)

I used to be a die hard metalist, but the genre got a bit stale, still like what I liked (Fear factory/Raging Speedhorn etc) but you probably won't like them :P

Currently liking anything Crystal Method or Chemical Brothers related!

Crystal Method:
Name of the game
Busy Child
Keep hope alive

Chemical Brothers:
Block Rockin Beats
Setting Sun
In Dust We Trust

Peshay is a beast, anything off him! :D

Guy called Hive:
Ultrasonic sound
Questionable Directions

Any prodigy's good :D

Erm, Ill leave it at that because you're unlikely to download anything more! :P

Art of Trance feat. Caroline Lavelle - Breathe (Dawnseekers mix)
Armin - Communication

Give them a try. If you like them you're onto a winner, if not stay clear of "my" music :)

And yes, it's more than two, but I hate 'Music Genres' because it confies you to one strand and then you like certain things because it fits into the strand (As I discovered with the metal!)

No that's fair enough mate. Genre was possibly a bad word to use :P Whatever floats your boat - I'll try it.

And I have both those songs already Tat ;)

Refugee

And "Mersey Police, harrassing young people sing the 1900's!"

They're both local favourites ;)

For public transport I would recommend some Muse!

Two tracks is difficult but I would say Bliss and Citizen Erased are both very agreeable!

Ska is the best genre of music - both the original ska movement and the uk ska revival. It is the only music that can get me bopping around my room and the only music that can out a smile on my face first thing in the morning.

two tunes I recommend:

original ska:
Toots and the maytals : 54-46 was my number

uk ska revival:
Bad manners : special brew

Just a few from my MP3 list. Most of it would tend to fall into the "metal" genre but as Ref said genre is highly overrated ;)

12Stones - 'Soulfire' or 'In my head' (hell anything by 12 stones :) )
Alicia Keys - Fallin'
BeeGees - Stayin' alive (sooooo funky)
Blue oyster cult - Dont fear the reaper
Boy Sets Fire - Cavity
Cake - Shadow stabbing
Cold - Bleed
Dry Kill Logic - Feel the Break
Earshot - Asleep I Lie
Earth Crisis - Paint it black ( classic cover of an already cool song)
Electrasy - Casmic castaway
Godsmack - I stand alone
Gold finger - Open your Eyes
H2O - I want I want
Hive - Ultrasonic sound
Hedpe - POS
Hoobustank - Earthsick
Jimmy eat world - The authority song
KMFDM - ultra
Lazard - 4'Oclock in the morning (version feat Beverly Craven)
Levellers - Another mans cause
Life Of agony - The river runs red
Lifer - Swallow
Logic34 - Never Again
Miocene - Fits like that
Pink - Most girls
Refused - new noise
SoulWax - much against everyones advice
Tool - 46&2
Urge - Its my time to fly

Right im going to stop there :P I hate looking down my MP3 list makes me wish i could listen to 100 tracks at once.

Bah at picking 2

but would have to be
Boy sets Fire - Cavity and 12 stones - soulfire to "represent" my genre ;)

Indeed Punk / Punk Ska owns.

Refugee is obviously a drum & bass noob tbh, as Peshay has produced about one better than average d&b track being 'Peshay ft. Co-ordinate - You Got Me Burning'.

Pop into your local HMV and find a CD titled Hospital Mix.2, which contains alot of un-released tracks very good and @ 4.99 you can't go wrong.
Imo High Contrast are developing the best d&b tracks tbh. High Contrast - True Colours album.

On the Punk / Ska side:
A New Found Glory (Almost all of their songs own)
Less than Jake (Ska)
Reel Big Fish (Ska)
Capdown (Ska)

There's always some noob trying to jump on the ska / punk bandwagon.

New Found Glory are also niether punk nor ska.

[TGC]Snow
05-02-2003, 17:24
i don't think he said they were ska :P punk is so meaningless now anyway, i think most ppl would describe NFG as punk even if they have FA to do with the punk ethic

Gwil
05-02-2003, 17:24
no, NFG are just sh*t :P

[TGC]Snow
05-02-2003, 17:27
are u suggesting that a band can't be both "punk" and "sh*t"!?!!?!?!?!? The emergence of a good punk band is a rare occurence that must be savoured!

MeTa

punk ska hmm well if you count the mighty mighty bosstones as punk/ska then yea I love it. Bit of a grey area though.

bosstones are one of my favorite bands of all time because they are just so terribly happy.

-DoNz-
05-02-2003, 18:26
Rock? Nu Rock, what ever they call it :p

Foo Fighters are my personal favourite band: One By One, the first six tracks are ace.

Try : Have it all, All my life, Halo, Times like these.

Also Red hot chilli peppers, weezer + Nickelback.

I prefer guitar based songs, thats my opinion anyway :)

Anything by MrScruff, Kruder and Dorfmeister or DJ Krush.

You have to listen to the whole album sequentially btw, or else it doesnt make any sense.
