Say that one day you are walking around and kill a monster. You pick up a necklass that adds 10 to mining. You stroll to town and go up to the nearest miner. He happens to be gm miner.
If this miner were to wear this necklass, would he have a better chance at getting the ore that requires 100skill and would he fail less at smelting high level ore?
This question deals with all skills in general, I am curious as to whether or not getting skills above 100 actually matters...
If you can't get skills above 100 anyway.... sorry for the waste of bits.

yes u can get skills over 100 using a magic necklace of whatever
and if you do have a magic necklace of + 10 blakcmisht or mining etc. it will help u either fail less or get more rares
yea u can get over 100 with items
most trade skills u can still fail occasionally at GM, when making potions or whatever, if ur over GM i'd assume the fail rate would be less, but i've not tested it
as for mining, the ore you dig is not dependant on skill. so if u get over 100, you wont get better types of ore, you will just fail less at digging and smelting

I've got a ring of Swords and I get 106% real skill. I can say that compared to just 100% real the fail rate is almost non-existant.

what I don't understand is, if mining rare ore isn't based on skill, what is it based on?
-Rune
-I hate no UO
the type of ore a tile has, is random. you might not have enough skill to dig it though, in which case you would fail.
so high skill doesnt make u find better ore, it just lets you dig the good ones when u do find them

Wouldn't you have a better chance of hitting the ore that requires 100%. I think each matrix randomly picks the ore based on your skill. When you walk into a mine field nothing is decided as to what's underneath the ground or what kind of ore is there. I think when you say mine here, the game randomly picks an ore to give you based on your skill. So I was wondering, if you had above 100, would you have an easier time getting Lothlorien ore or any of the ore that is required for 100. Thing is, I have been mining like crazy as a gm miner and I havn't even touched lothlorien ore.
well...
i think it'd be better if u find better ores at higher skill, but thats not how it works
lothlorien is incredibly rare
