Could someone please explain to me why the server keeps crashing. Is it the AFK programs that are banned and some weenie still has to use them? Kindly fill me in on the details.

Yeah i would like to know what is going on.... First it crashes and doesnt get rebooted for a week. Then it "crashes, password issue" and is unavailable until monday and now it crashes or was brought down again. Before this it was running just fine for months at a time. Maybe the server operators need to watch this particular server a bit more closely?

Ok heres an explanation for what is going on.....

When the shard goes down the lothlorien admins do not have access to the server to reboot it at the moment. An admin has to be emailed at Firstnet to get the server restarted.

The shard uses alot of space on the server (20mb or so is added to it every day). This along wtih the backups, logs etc means that the server is running very low on space atm.

Firstnet have been asked to upgrade the servers hdd. This will be some time before it happens. The loth staff have been trying to free up space and sort problems with scripts in order to try and stop the server crashing so much.

Please bear with them whilst they try and sort this out

Would it not be possible to set up some sort of internal rcon script that would allow you to send it a cmd telling it to go through a macroed process that would set it back up for you?

Otherwise we might have to hire circus monkeys that will push the power button twice every week.

1- we've been looking into a remote restart utility, but firstnet are understandably reluctant to allow ppl they dont know off the net that much access to their servers and to get past their firewalls etc

2- the reason it crashes i personally think is something with the questing stones, we will not use them in future until they are rescripted

main problem is there is 2 groups of staff, the Loth game GM's, and the people who maintain the server. wireplay got bought by arenatek and sold to firstnet, as far as i know... so there has been massive changes at that end. it has stabilised a lot now tho.

the reason its crashing now and wasnt 2 months ago, is due to the questing stones being used by loads of people, and the hard drive is full
(i think we've deleted old world saves and old logs now tho so it should be ok for a while)
