View Full Version : "Doommap" (kots2k server)

as much as i like the "doommap" map... can it be removed from the map rotation?

Its as buggy as hell... keep getting trapped in walls and half the time i cant connect to the server when this map is currently running... I keep getting crap error messages along the lines of:

unknown command "q2start08".
unknown command "ASDAHCJSDFHSD[ASD"

The KOTS server has been dead all morning because nobody can successfully get on the server so it will switch to the next one in sequence due to this map and having the same problems.

Fev m8 are you still using q2ace version 1.20? As thats buggy as hell for map entities, 1.21 seemed to clear up alot of the map probs I was having like invisible lifts and doors and other things like that. If your not on 1.21 it might be worth trying that first and seeing how it goes.

That unknown command stuff sounds like q2ace related as well.

it opens real quick when i check it out... it has high r_speeds, and near max entities
if the r_speeds are high, it will lag you out and take alot for you to load it... if there is a leak, it will also lag you... if it has over max entities it will lag... the map will lag if you try joining the server when monsters are in

It isnt so much "lag"... as when it does load up its relatively quick.

I just get stuck in the console with a black screen in the background with the same crap error messages spamming the console.

Dunno if anyone else is having this problem?

I just checked the map, and it can't really be r_speeds, since the face count is 300 and below and entity count is about 3000 and below. They can easily go up to about 3 times that and still maybe be playable. I'm guessing the problem could be tons of expacks and rockets and grenades and hyperblasts and dead bodies, especially dead bodies as they're gibbed, since all of the map can be rendered at once, and there tends to be a lot of players on wireplay. That could pretty much keep you unable to see what's going on, not sure what the console errors mean, but if it only lets you partly load because of too much stuff on the map, it could get spam console messages at you, maybe, I don't know.

As for getting stuck in the walls, I don't know how that happens, unless it's just impossible to find your way out because everything is white.

those error messages are something that makes q2 start something...the number isn't 03 on my computer... its 83... they have some other ones that pop up on your screen if you start a map in software mode

I always start off in software mode as I cant alt-tab out from my gfx card otherwise due to having an old voodoo card ;) :E

I've come to a conclusion that it isnt too bad with small amounts of peeps but isnt that great when you have 10+ peeps on there spreewarring.

We had 3 peeps join the map from a map rotation and it was ok. But I couldnt even join the map properly the other night when there was about 10-12 on there and a fullscale spreewar going on with expacks etc.

So I think if you have the map in rotation it only should play with no more than 8-10 peeps.
