This is a community meeting held by who? To discuss what?
I think we should have a meeting to discuss what the meeting will be about before we even think about having a meeting to decide what time the meeting we had the meeting to discuss what the meeting will be about meeting....
:E
and to confuse things further....
Is it a meeting for officials with staff or a meeting for the public with officials and/or staff?

and the color "blue"
can you say blue ?
Maybe the community would be more interested or think its more important to come IF you outlined a few points or a few topics that would be discussed at this meeting?
I prefer SWISS cheese of course :E
And the colour RED. :E
Yes, that would be good.
Black... mmm... black die die die!
Sorry to interrupt the comedy gold...
Can anyone give us an inclination of what this meeting will be about and what is hoped to come out of it.
I really don't want to waste my Sunday afternoon with a hour of IRC sesame street. :oscar_the_grouch:

Ron's probably spot on then.
Sounds so Daff :E
Actually TBH if you want community peeps to turn up, a forum wide announcement would perhaps have been a better thing to do. Outlining that with general info even if you had a link to this very thread. Then everyone would have equal chance to see it regardless of the forums they actually use then.
Sounds like its going to be chaos with 101 peeps asking the same sort of questions? :E Or you be telling the communities what is going on in such a manner you could have handled in a post/email/newsletter type thing?
Surely a Q&A thing would have been better with a few topics listed in advance and a chance for peeps to submit some related questions? I think for example the BY Q&As they had, worked somewhat well since the similiar questions and areas were streamlined into some sort of sense and presented in irc in some sort of organised fashion.

I had a nice little mIRC script designed to handle IRC Q&A's.
If anyone wants it let me know and I'll try to dig it up.
GG if you can find it can you send me it please :E

Nah, go round to your bud to watch the football 1st, take some beers as a bribe then use their computer instead :E
Or if you dont like to watch footie, their puter will be free if they do :E

well the last 3-4 meetings have been @ 3
i think that we postpone the meeting till "next sunday"
when hopefully pigwhistler will have his line back :)
ah fair enough, thats why I've never seen any then :)
Meeting is today 09/03/2003 at 3pm in #wpcommunity
Great communication skills to the communities?
Finally make a decision and tell everyone 1/2 an hour before its due to happen in this thread and irc.
The last message on here was "prostponed" to next week.
And still no forum wide annoucement? Why not, we have had forum wide anncouncements before.

Yeah, i thought it had been postponed also till i just got home.
Thats the piont. I think they need to inform peeps overall and in good time, which is what a forum wide announcement would be perfect for.
Also so far I think they would have been better to do something similiar to the BY Q&A and get peeps to submit some questions in advance and those could have been arranged into somekind of order and similiar questions put together.
Sometimes these things can get out of hand and certain questions should be answered generic wise first. Except of getting the same sort of questions asked for each game type.

It's a good meeting so far !
Well at least listening to you & Schmo is interesting :E
Overall I'm disappionted so far for various reasons. Will be interesting to see the Q&A posted and cleared up into some kind of better sense.
Hopefully the next Q&A if there is one, will be better than this one.

Hopefully the next Q&A will feature the person who's in charge and not poor Breath and Dash trying to bluff it ;)

It was ment to be vampires meeting... we tried our best to cover for him
The meeting was a bit of a shambles, it didn't go according to plan (I didn't know the plan) but hey.
I hope all those who came along got some useful information from it. With nobody employed to run meetings, or make annoncements things can sometimes get a bit messed up.
Most of us have full time jobs as well as running our communities and doing other stuff for Wireplay. I am sure if FirstNet is willing to employ any of us we'll be able to put more time into it.
Still. If you have queries don't hesitate to contact one of us. Your first point of contact is your community liason. If you don't have one, then pester another one.

A public area for asking questions would be nice, even if its limited to a forum thread. Stops the repeating of the same or similiar questions and often or not certain questions spring other questions to be asked.

Whats the saying about too many cooks !!!
It looks to me as if Pigwhistler needs to be a bit more obvious around the place, as people are trying to second guess him and make things happen. Either that or he needs to appoint someone to liaise with the rest of us.
Looks like the meeting was a bit of a shambles, I had understood it was off like many others. At the moment it looks as if three people are all trying to do the same thing and getting their wires crossed, Vampire, Dash and Breath.
It's a learning process, I'm sure things will start to smooth out when we get this sort of thing sorted.
We all have so much on our plates things easily get crossed, wired into the same hole, and short-circuited.

/me is just getting on with his own thing :E
The organisation is pee poor I'm afraid to say. No GSP is going to get anywhere if its left upto CLs alone to organise and run these things. Notwithstanding how well intentioned these folk are, its not going to work. Its just going to make Wireplay look even more amateur than it already does.

I disagree, look at what we are doing with Unreal, we got 7 leagues on the go already (signups are open) and are highly organised. The simple fact is we are all in this together, and I would be more than happy to help other cls out who are struggling. It's not just being left entirely to CL's, I am in regular contact with Firstnet who have allowed their whole team of 150 staff to help with backing in this project.
The fist thing Firstnet admitted when they bought wireplay was they didn't have any experience in running a GSP, the CL's at wireplay have more experience than you think. I spent a long time at Jolt and Vamphy etc are old wireplay staff, sure it will take some people longer to find their feet than others but we are all intending to stick together on this and help each other through.
We love wireplay, we want it to succeed, thats the reason weve stuck by it in recent times despite not knowing what the future holds. The support Firstnet have gave me with regards the Unreal leagues has been nothing short of fantastic, without them we could never have got things off the ground there. The knock on effects have been great for us, irc chan is filling, forums are getting busier and we have a set of shiny new servers to run them on.
My point is this, give us a chance and we will succeed. If we identify that a CL is struggling we will help them through it. We are a team of people that get on well together, its that teamwork that will see us make this a success.

I'm with LadyWarrior - the place needs a figurehead. In the GP days the butt of everyone's jokes was Velvet (and Skunk, but for different reasons), in the Arenatek days "Razz wos ghey" and now... someone needs to be in charge.

I quite enjoyed the meeting and had good answers to my questions about UT and the future of league gaming @ wireplay.
What would be nice is if we could get the clanleaders together for a discussion regarding settings/maps/rules etc.
The clanleaders can ascertain from their members the maps and ingame settings they would prefer and then put those views forward to the wp reps.
We don't want a repeat of Jolt's failure in the UT2003 multi-league.
bd
I 'think' thats what pigwhistler basically is. However, i guess he's having less time to liaise atm simply because communities are keeping him busy.

lol...that's fine and I am personally very pleased that wireplay are actually taking an interest in trying to ensure that leagues start in the right way as decided by the players who are going to be involoved.
It's way way better than being dictated to by someone who thinks they know what's best.
The more effort that is put into getting feedback from players the greater the chance that clans will
1 want to take part
2 stay in once signed
3 remain actively involved
Take away players opinions or ignoring their advice will quickly lead to failure.
If you have the clanleaders opinion on league matters it relieves the burden of having a 100 different views on forums, as issues are already sorted within the clan.
The fundamentals of league play are set and it's really only down to which maps are played and server issues.
A council of leaders for each league is a sound idea and I am 100% behind it.
bd
What I don't understand about all this, is whats in it for Firstnet ?

yes its due to be rolled out across all the leagues as well as the community in general. Firstnet want wireplay to be run by the community, in my mind that does not mean me and Guyver dictating to the community. My intention is to give the community as much say as reasonably possible as to how we run things, this is the first stage of that.
They have their plans, although I'm not sure if I'm allowed to talk about them.
Either way, they seem a bit feeble, but it will involve Wireplay having contsant work done, so I think things will get better before they get worse.
I think we are safe for a fair few years at least.

lol, I actually completely forgot about it until SteveP mentioned that they'd formatted the server with the master server on it, but forgot to back up the master server software first.
I'd like to read the chat logs if there's any around though :)
TOP we go.
Was there a meeting? Any chat logs kicking around? Is there another meeting? Is there any info about what was, or in fact is to be, discussed, or announced?
and when's the next one??? sampson has been very busy lately so i'd like to take his place for the jk2 servers...hopefully he won't mid but someone from jk2's gotta be there. ;)
There wasn't a meeting at the weekend.
