i know the game contains elements that were not in freespace 2, mainly the trading aspects and the like but the crux of the game will be the combat and control elements...

and seeing as nothing and i mean nothing has come close to beating freespace2's sense of scale (OMG!!! DID YOU SEE THE SIZE OF THOSE MOTHER SHIPS!!!&£*%&*£^$*£&$), immerseiveness, combat, control, graphics, sound, music (the soundtrack was fookin excellent and i believed could be played on a normal cd player by just popping the game cd into one)...not to mention that you were just a normal pilot in a huge war and not a standout hero like in a lot of other ames was also a very unique approach which i thought made the game stand out a lot.

so does freelancer have an uphill task...and no, this has nothing to do with freespace2 being one of my favourite games of all time and being practically god and i..i..i r biased. ;(

I worshipped the Freespace series...

However, I downloaded the Freelancer demo yesterday and fired it up at around 6.30.

Next thing, I look at the clock and it's 9.30...

And thats just the demo :D

If you want something more like the amazing Freespace 2 then try StarLancer. Nearly 3 years old now but damn good. Not quite as good as Freespace 2 in my opinion but very good.
By the same people that did Freelancer, and set in the same universe, but taking place during the Coalition-Alliance war outlined in the Freelancer intro. :D

Plus you should be able to pick it up dead cheap now, I saw it for a fiver not so long back. :w00t:

Actually, now I come to think of it, I don't think you can really compare Freelancer with Freespace 2. They're 2 quite distinctly different genres. StarLancer is more of a close comparison to Freespace 2, they're both space combat games, whereas Freelancer has more in common with the massively underrated (and somewhat little known) X - Beyond The Frontier, with the trading and freedom to do as you will.
