I'm really bloody angry now :(

Just spent an hour typing out a 10,000 character message to someone. Not only does it then have to be split up into ten seperate messages because of the stupid 1000 character per message limit, it then decides on the second message that it has forgotten my password and so I enter that again and then it loses the message itself :(

I dunno what the hell I have sent now either because the 'Sent Items' thing doesn't seem to work at all.

If you can't get simple stuff like this right then thre isn;t much hope for the future

Email?

Yeah that would be fine but the person concerned keeps their email address hidden, like yourself.

I'm sorry but this has really wound me up. I'm not the fastest typer in the world and I just lost an hour of my life for nothing.

strange it works fine for me i get around pm's 4-5 a day

if any message is that important then like i have to tell every student in the world "back up your work ffs".

create your message in notepad save it then c'n'p it to the message

That's all very well but it's still crazy having to then chop the message up into 10 seperate bits just to be able to post it.

The 1000 limit is crazy :(

The 1000 character limit is very common and needed to stop the database of PMs exploding in size.

It's expected that where a large message needs to be send email or something similar would be used. Sure, the address is kept hidden, but thats where you ask the person for an email address first...

(Don't turn on the spam filter) what's that supposed to mean eh? You suggesting that things are falling to bits because of poor maintenance?

That's a bit short sighted mate dont you think?

When sending long PM's follow this guide:

1) PM the person asking for their e-mail.

2) Await response.

3) E-mail them your essay.

Regardless of message length, the pm system should be trusted not to waste hours of your life by erasing big messages.

If the facility is so fickle that the only suggestion is to email instead of pming. Why support the forum pm at all?

For short messages to go to people in private?

It's like PM on IRC, or ICQ. You wouldn't send 10,000 words in one lump. In fact, I doubt you'd send 10,000 words at all.

Private messaging is very handy for communicating with people for the said cause, private messages.

If you want to use anything a bit more robust or with higher capacity try e-mail. I don't think they ever intended for you to use PM over e-mail.

But if you don't like it, you don't have to use it.

Yeah but you shouldn't have to. Have none of these problems on the MLR forum. The limit is 10,000, it never crashes and the 'sent items' feature works too so it can be done.

Maybe this message board needs updating to a newer version or something?

it does need updating for many reasons - but i'd be surprised if given the size of the user base here the limit on PM message sizes would increase.

I doubt it'll get updated anytime soon..
