Ok, this ones going to be long and will be in many parts and at different times, so bare with me.

News & Rumours(US):

Sources with in WWE are saying that The Rock continues to act backstage as he always has. He hasn't gone "Hollywood" despite of his success. He has not grown an ego, though he seems to be very sure of himself.

William Regal was not at RAW last Monday, as he was still recovering from the concussion suffered at No Way Out.

Nathan Jones doesn't seem to impress anyone backstage. In fact, sources say he is perceived as more of a "screw up" in the ring. At the February 25 SmakcDown taping, they had to do a segment twice in front of the crowd by having the heels, A-Train and Big Show, return to the ring. At first, Nathan tripped and stumbled quit a bit after delivering a spin kick so they had to re-film that part of the segment all over again.
Everyone is wondering about how much time Vince McMahon will invest in Jones, before fully realizing that he is extremely "green" and is not worthy of a big push, at least not right now.

The ankle injury Randy Orton recently suffered appears to be the same one Maven had last year, which sidelined him for six-months.

Officials are worried about Batista's triceps injury, since they don't heal well and re-injury is quite common.

With so many wrestlers going down with injuries, like the aforementioned Rand Orton and Batista, plus Kurt Angle and Edge, it's been mentioned that Mick Foley will be getting a phone call very soon from WWE. Foley seems to be happy with his post-wrestling life, what with his new novel coming out. Anyone who has spoken with Foley get the distinct impression that he is still hung up on the way he was treated by WWE after he retired. WWE officials, according to Foley, treated him just as any other wrestler, whether than a veteran or legend, which he is.

D’Lo Brown recently commented on his release from WWE during a radio interview. D’Lo called the release shocking to everyone, including fellow WWE superstars and his wife. Brown commented by saying that he never saw it coming and just wished he knew why he was released. However, the reason for Brown’s termination is due to WWE’s financial cutbacks and Brown could probably make more money on the independent circuits than what he was doing in WWE, which was just over $300,000 a year.

There has been a whole lot of talk to who Brock Lesnar will be taking on at WrestleMania, due to Angle’s neck injury. Expect Lesnar to win the WWE Championship very soon from Angle, working him in to face a new opponent at WrestleMania. Top candidates to face Lesnar later this month at WrestleMania are Chris Benoit, Bill Goldberg, and Rhyno.
Chris Benoit would be a good opponent for Lesnar; however, many feel that WWE would not want to put the title on Benoit due to his lack of charisma. Many have said that Bill Goldberg would be a perfect opponent and a wonderful match, however, for that to happen WWE is going to have to hurry up and get the deal signed with Goldberg to be able to have enough time to work him into the event. Rhyno is the other choice, many feel that this would make a good match but would probably be too rushed to be able to have enough promotion for the match to be effective.

Kurt Angle’s neck injury is very serious and he will require surgery to repair the damage that he did when he re-aggravated a previous injury two weeks ago at a SmackDown house show. Apparently, until Angle goes for surgery he can still work a basic television match; however, will not be able to compete at WrestleMania against Brock Lesnar, due to the match requiring much more physical energy. This injury will of course shatter Angle’s Olympic hopes as well.

Everyone seemed pleased with the way the Brian Kendrick/Kurt Angle match played out on SmackDown last week. Everyone agreed that the segment was a homerun.

The decision on whether or not to renew WWE Tough Enough probably won't be made until mid-May, which will be the end of the four-month window. MTV representatives are indicating that the network would not make a decision until the end of the four months. If MTV doesn't renew the show, WWE will be free to market the show to other networks, and many other networks are showing interest. MTV may be giving up Sunday Night Heat as well, which would switch to TNN.

As of last Monday, Goldberg has not signed a deal with WWE. However, some do continue to speculate that he has secretly made a deal with WWE and is keeping it under raps. Nonetheless, sources say that this is not the case. Hulk Hogan gave Goldberg a call right before No Way Out; during time WWE tried striking up the deal. Hogan wasn't too convincing, but did inform him of the major advantages and gave much encouragement.

Since arriving to WWE Scott Steiner has been carrying himself well. He keeps to him self, and only interacts when spoken to. He doesn't hang out with any cliques, and has become more of a loner.

Stone Cold Steve Austin's WWE contract will expire in September.

Hulk Hogan worked No Way Out with out a contract, but he is expected to sign a one-year deal, at the least, some time soon, that's if he hasn't already. Hogan has requested, however, that Jimmy Hart be given a contract upon his signing.

Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan sat next to each other on a plane ride out of Montreal, Canada last week, after No Way Out all the way until they each had to transfer in Atlanta. Neither of them worked RAW or SmackDown last week, so it was a surprising situation when they both left the same city at the exact same time. They talk a lot, of course, their conversation included their experiences with Eric Bischoff, which generated some laughter.

On a related note, Steve Austin and Eric Bischoff have ironed out all their differences and continue to talk on a professional level. The two began talking when Bischoff visited Texas for the "Search for Stone Cold" vignettes.

The crowd at the Nassau Coliseum for Monday's RAW was considerably dead. One RAW brand wrestler went on record to say "It was the sh**s". The crowd even got a little tough on Lillian Garcia as she was signing the National Anthem. Jim Ross said on a recent Byte This broadcast that the Nassau crowd sometimes act like their watching a golf tournament, which was the atmosphere on the night RAW aired. Even the pop for Austin was disappointing.

- With Paul Heyman's demotion from the Smackdown! writing team, top duties now fall on David Lagana (a former albeit brief writer for "Friends") and Bruce Prichard. Lagana has been helping with the Smackdown! booking since the writing teams were split while Prichard recently left Raw and traded spots with Michael Hayes because WWE wanted someone with a strong wrestling background on Raw to counter-act Brian Gewirtz and his entertainment-based writing.

- Wrestlers backstage have been told that Heyman is still on the writing team but that his role has simply changed to that of a "consultant". They were told that it is wasn't demotion though most everyone knows that it is. Meanwhile, Heyman was told that the reason for his role change was because he is on the road too much and that it didn't give him enough time to concentrate on his writing duties. There is some belief that the real reason is that Heyman's view of wrestling just wasn't on the same page as that of Vince McMahon.

- Sunday Night Heat is expected to move to TNN permanently around April 1, mainly because TNN wants it and because MTV really doesn't care about the show anymore.

Apologies if I have.

News & Rumours(Japan):

New Japan held another excellent big show today, drawing it's biggest attendance in many years at the Nagoya Rainbow Hall for a stacked show. Kengo Kimura's retirement countdown continued, but he was on the losing side today, he and Yano losing to Nishimura & Samurai. In somewhat of an upset, Makai #4 defeated Blue Wolf in the U-30 to go level on points with him, raising intrigue about who will qualify from that block. Iizuka vs. Makai #5 was over in 54 seconds, when the two could not be separated and fought to a double countout. After provocation, the match was restarted, and Makai #5 struck Iizuka with a high kick, then showered punches and elbows to the face for a referee stoppage in 26 seconds! Iizuka's humiliation was worsened when he was stretchered out, Mitsuya Nagai again overwhelming him! Iizuka will look to fight back in their next two matches, and will be angrier than ever. Enson Inoue, a very popular vale tudo star, arrived today and joined up with the Crazy Dogs. While it was longer than other Crazy Dogs vs. Makai Club matches, the situation still failed to truly take off, with confused fighting forcing the referee to throw the match out. There are still two more big matches between the bolstered units for a decisive outcome. Kantaro Hoshino was beaten up today, and received a sleeper hold from Enson. Kanemoto & Liger made a successful V1 defense of their IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title, fending off AKIRA & Heat. This was reportedly a wonderful match, in which AKIRA especially shone. He and Liger fought outside the ring, while Kanemoto used a flying back cradle to pin Heat and avenge his 2/16 fall loss. Liger said that he wants another NOAH team to challenge next, so expect the champions to rampage back into NOAH, or for a NOAH team to invade New Japan. Chono & Tenzan also had a difficult challenge, but defeated Takayama & Makabe in their V6 defense of the title. The finish sounded strange. A bloody (again!) Makabe was on his last legs, and speared Chono, but it was Makabe who collapsed, possibly from a counter-attack from Chono (as the finish was listed as a "tackle"), and Chono got the win. A lot of people have forgotten that with today's win, Chono & Tenzan now match the all-time defense record for the IWGP Tag Team Title. The only other teams with six defenses were Hashimoto & Hirata and Tenzan & Kojima (second reign), and neither exceeded that. Tenzan is interested in challenging for a singles title again, either IWGP Heavyweight, NWF Heavyweight, or maybe even GHC Heavyweight. Finally, generation rivals Yuji Nagata and Manabu Nakanishi fought their greatest match against each other, showing themselves to be complete equals with a grueling 60 minute draw. Before the main event, tragedy struck when a fan reportedly fell from the second floor and possibly crushed one or more fans underneath him. The details are VERY sketchy and nothing is confirmed, but the person who fell is said to be in a serious condition. I don't know how this effected the anticipation for the main event, as I'm sure many fans would have been shaken up. But the show had to go on, and Nagata vs. Nakanishi took place. Nakanishi worked over Nagata's lower back/waist with a Schmidt-style backbreaker and Cobra Twist, leading forward to the Argentine backbreaker. After coming back, Nagata worked over Nakanishi's leg with low kicks and the original Nagata Lock. After 40 minutes, Chono and Tenzan arrived at ringside, kneeling to watch the match. Nagata started getting aggressive with Exploder suplexes, but Nakanishi wouldn't be beaten. After 50 minutes, the tempo was high, with Nakanishi's German suplex hold, Nagata's Nagata Lock III, and his backdrop suplex hold all used. The 60 minute time limit hit, meaning that Nagata has now equalled Hashimoto's nine defense record (both of Hashimoto's records are in danger). The two titans clasped hands after the match, their tension gone after such a fight. This was said to be an excellent match, with a lot of New Japan style technical work. The idea was to have a long New Japan style match that would appeal to New Japan fans in the same way that Misawa vs. Kobashi, a high impact NOAH style match, appealed to NOAH fans. Nakanishi was unhappy not at the match, but the result, because he wanted political power for the 5/2 Tokyo Dome show. Nakanishi said though, that he would show the violence and severity of pro wrestling to outdo all the vale tudo fights on the event. Some very strong rumours going around of Nagata vs. Hashimoto at the Tokyo Dome, even though ZERO-ONE is running head to head with New Japan at Korakuen on that day. However, Korakuen is virtually next door to the Tokyo Dome, so Hashimoto could wrestle in the opener, then head to the Dome.

NOAH will create a GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title this year, the company's second junior throne. There is no formal schedule for when it'll be created, or how, but a tournament is the most likely possibility. Tentative time of creation for the belts is July. This will help give the juniors more exposure, but the problem is a lack of juniors in NOAH (there are some juniors in the heavyweight division, but they wrestle as heavyweights), and they have already almost run out of challengers for Kanemaru's GHC Heavyweight Title (explaining his lack of defenses lately). A possibility is to bring in outsiders to challenge for the straps from New Japan, Toryumon Japan, and other places. Tamon Honda will be Kenta Kobashi's first challenger for the GHC Heavyweight Title, unofficially scheduled to challenge him in the main event of NOAH's 4/13 Ariake Colosseum show, which will also probably have Takayama vs. Rikio NWF Heavyweight Title (if Takayama defeats Norton), and Akiyama & Saito vs. Misawa & Ogawa GHC Heavyweight Title. Kobashi's other upcoming challengers, assuming he doesn't lose the belt early, are currently slated to be Akitoshi Saito, The Predator, and at some point, Jun Akiyama. Many ringside seats for this show were sold out in the first day of availability, before any matches were even tentatively set. A lot of fans are eager to see Kobashi defend his title.

--> "HYPER BATTLE 2003" <--
The first WPW taping of the tour was minor compared to the next two, but not without it's share of happenings. Kengo Kimura began his retirement countdown, forming "Team Inazuma" (because both do Inazuma leg lariats) with Kakihara. They beat Nishimura & Samurai, with Kengo's famous Inazuma (lightning) leg lariat getting the win. Dan Devine picked up his first win in the U-30, going joint on points with Shinya Makabe in Block A following a win over Makai #2. AKIRA, Heat & Tiger Mask defeated Kanemoto, Liger & Fujita, an upset finish seeing Tiger pin Kanemoto with a German suplex hold. Again, the Crazy Dogs vs. Makai Club failed to take off, with a short DQ finish coming when Makai #5 and Kantaro Hoshino were assaulting Iizuka. Chono & Tenzan won the first lead-in match to their IWGP Tag Title bout with Takayama & Makabe on 3/9, putting away Norton & Makabe, when Tenzan TTD'd Makabe. Makabe still has two big chances to pin Chono, which is his ambition, on 3/9, or in their 3/21 singles match. The main event was the match of the night, and saw two veteran/youngster teams go at it. Nakanishi made it 1-1 with Nagata in their matches on the tour so far, debuting his new team with Tanahashi in style, when the two defeated Nagata & Wolf. Nagata & Wolf weren't able to follow up on their 2/16 win over Barnett & Saturn, Nakanishi pinning Wolf and gaining stream for his title challenge. Nakanishi's new plan is to win the title, then face Kenta Kobashi in an ultimate confrontation match, IWGP vs. GHC, at the Tokyo Dome on 5/2. Antonio Inoki is trying hard to get Shinya Hashimoto and Naoya Ogawa on the show, but since Hashimoto has a Korakuen Hall event planned on that day to oppose New Japan's show, it could be difficult. Some good news out of Japan right now is New Japan's incredible TV ratings recently. They have been doing between 6.0 and 7.0 for some broadcasts just lately, with a lot of interest both for the current shows and also the spotlight on Showa matches. These are some of the biggest TV ratings for non-Dome shows in years. Kantaro Hoshino is taking credit, saying fans are tuning in to see the Makai Club. There are strong rumours that 5/2 will be broadcast live in golden hour (primetime), which the last two Tokyo Dome shows haven't been.

For those interested, the top ten selling New Japan merchandise items in the past week were,

1. Makai Club sticker set
2. Jushin Thunder Liger action figure
3. Jushin Thunder Liger keyring
4. Antonio Inoki CD
5. Harimao'z (Makai #4 & Makai #5) t-shirt
6. Jushin Thunder Liger mascot strap
7. Antonio Inoki action figure
8. Makai Club turbo lighter (like a cigarette lighter)
9. Hiroshi Tanahashi action figure
10. Makai Club t-shirt (large size)

NOAH announced the complete lineup for it's stand-alone "NAVIGATION" event at it's home base, Differ Ariake, on 3/16. The only real highlight is quite a surprise, not because of the contents, but because of the positioning. The juniors will get chance to main event in a six man tag, with Kanemaru, Hashi & Sugiura facing the high-flying trio of Marufuji, KENTA & Kotaro. NOAH is trying to give the juniors more feature matches because of the lack of young heavyweights. New GHC Heavyweight Champion, Kenta Kobashi, will miss the show due to his various injuries. Misawa said that he and Ogawa will soon challenge for the GHC Tag Team Title, with a match against Akiyama & Saito coming up. NOAH is trying to recruit some trainees that are quite tall (5'11" minimum) in an attempt to get some heavyweights, and has sent out an ad for young prospects. The last hopeful out of the NOAH dojo was Kotaro Suzuki on 12/24/01.

"Kakutogi Tsushin, Japan's #1 MMA publication is also reporting that Pride 25 may be the last DSE Pride, though it is not 100% certain. It also mentions a possible buy out for Pride 26."

Literally hours after receiving this news from Todd, we received an e-mail from someone who wanted to remain anonymous confirming Todd's report that PRIDE is being in the process or already has been sold (from Hiromichi Momose & Nobuyuki Sakakibara of Dream Stage Entertainment) to another company. The e-mail also stated that there are plans for a Super-Heavyweight Title and that the rumors of Bob Sapp vs. Dan Bobish on 6/29 in Sapporo at Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center on a WJ Pro card are true.

The rumors of Bob Sapp being in Thailand "training" for Muay Thai are true.

All Japan will officially announced the line-up for their 7/14 Tokyo, Nippon Budokan show at their 6/30 Tokyo, Korakuen Hall rally. An All-Asian Tag Title match, along with what is expected to be Gen'ichiro Tenryu vs. Steve Williams or Mike Barton in a "#1 contender's match" for the Triple Crown is expected to be booked.

Kenta Kobashi had a meeting at the Pro Wrestling NOAH offices in Ariake, Tokyo on Tuesday to give a report on his current condition. Kobashi said that he expects to have one more surgery on his right knee in August and/or September, and is down to around 215 pounds. NOAH owner Mitsuharu Misawa told Kobashi to take his time and that he should be patient on the matter.

The word that we are hearing concerning the NOAH tour in July in Japan is that Michael Modest (All Pro Wrestling/Hayward, CA), Donovan Morgan (All Pro Wrestling/Hayward, CA), Bull Schmitt (Race Academy?/Missouri), & Superstar Steve (Race Academy/Missouri) have been booked for the tour along with Vader & Scorpio. There is also word that the Backseat Boys, a tag team on the independent circuit in the Northeast (America) will be brought in by NOAH or Michinoku Pro (it appears NOAH) for NOAH's August tour.

There is big talk that the first interpromotional match between the Inoki Corps. vs. K-1 will be Musashi (K-1) vs. Naoya Ogawa (Inoki corps.)

Here is the line-up so far for the RINGS 10th anniversary show at the 12,000-seat Ariake Colosseum in Tokyo on August 11th. Keep in mind that this show will run head-to-head against FMW's big Summer show on August 11th at the 7,800-seat Komazawa Olympic Stadium in Tokyo. RINGS line-up:

Chris Haseman vs. Gustavo Ximu (RINGS Middleweight Tournament semi-finals)
Jeremy Horn vs. Ricardo Arona (RINGS Middleweight Tournament semi-finals)
Ilioukhine Mikhail vs. Bobby Hoffman (RINGS Heavyweight Tournament semi-finals)
Emelianenko Fedor vs. Renato Babalu (RINGS Heavyweight Tournament semi-finals)
Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs. Volk Han (exhibition legends match)

Here are the venues booked for NOAH's August-September 2001 tour:

8/14 Miyagi, exercise park gym
8/15 Akita (special village camp ring set-up)

8/26 Chiba, Togane Arena
8/27 Tokyo, Korakuen Hall
8/28 Tokyo, Korakuen Hall
8/30 Aichi, Kasugai City Gym
8/31 Osaka Prefectural Gym II
9/1 Kyoto, KBS Hall
9/2 Shizuoka Shin Messe
9/4 Miyagi (not totally finalized)
9/5 Morioka, Iwate Prefectural Gym
9/6 Aomori Budokan (martial arts building)
9/8 Niigata, Nagaoka City Welfare Hall
9/9 Tokyo, Differ Ariake

It was officially announced today that the main event of the NOAH 1st anniversary show (7/27 Tokyo, Nippon Budokan) would be Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Jun Akiyama for the GHC Heavyweight Title. The undercard is expected to have Daisuke Ikeda vs. Takao Omori and Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Jushin Liger for the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Title belt.

The word right now in Japan is that Shinjiro Ohtani is somehow a booker in the ZERO-ONE group as an undercard booker, with Hashimoto and Inoki booking the top matches on the cards. Ohtani is expected to book some sort of Japanese tournament at ZERO-ONE's 8/30 Nippon Budokan show involving Masato Tanaka and Yuki Ishikawa.

From July 19th to August 19th, Michinoku Pro will run a show every single day between those two periods of time. That's 32 shows consecutively.

Thats it for now. All credit to Rajah.com, Strong Style Spirit and Puroresu Power. Updates whenever I can:)

great work big lad - First time ive read a news & rumours post in a long time.

Whats this Makai club stuff ?

HybridXTC
10-03-2003, 21:34
I`ll try and explain, though I`m not totally sure myself.

The Makai Club, which traslates as "Devil's World" Club is a group of wrestlers who formed an NWO type scenario, but it was more than just an angle people seemed to think it was a new federation. But it`s a training Dojo and mixed martial arts club. It`s fighters are involved across the board. It also appears to have branched out from pro-wrestling to MMA. It`s fighters are from Japan and America.

The people associated with it are:

Makabe Shinya
Yanagisawa
Takayama
Yasuda
Fujita
Pinoi Boy
Justin McCully
Jack Bull
Rocky
Ricky
American Dragon
Great Muta
Wallid Ismail
Scott Norton
Antonio Inoki
Ken Shamrock

At the moment I hear that Raven and Bob Sapp (among others) are about to approached to join. This could be an Inter-promotional stable that could shake pro-wrestling and MMA to the core if what I think is happening is actually happening:rolling:

We should actually take it as rumour about, MMA and who`s joining, etc (though as you once said, it`s usually true if it`s from Japan). But we can only hope.

So turn him heel you morons. When he was having his feud with Jericho a few years back he was brilliant. He works far better as a heel, and the mic work can then be kept to a minimum. Just give him the sodding belt, he deserves it more than anyone.
