omg peeps go on about the usa and britain with this war and saying its about oil etc


i just found out that the saddam gov had made deals worth billions with russia and france now we know why they were so opposed to the war they stand to lose billions in contracts

I know, it's not exactly great stuff, but hey. You can fool French SAM missile with tin foil, so Iraq isn't really making any benifit.

Plus the Iraqi main battle tank is the old Russian T72 and T55.

The French had the biggest stake in Iraqi oil, a stake that would be null and void under a new regime.

Russia are abit different though, as an exporter or oil they are happy with the price of oil at the moment. The worry for the russians is that a post war increase in production and the resultant reduction in price will devastate their economy similar to what they faced in 1995.

The Money Programme was just on there and they gave a pretty good account of the oil issues currently. Atlhough it was biased (in that it devoted 25 minutes to telling you how the US want a war for oil) it did cover the main issues. It isn't the war for oil that the protesters believe it is though, its not about making money for US companies per se, it could well be about opening up the untapped reserves in the Iraqi oil fields that currently lie dormant.

Why do they lie dormant ? Well cos you don't really want to put poop loads of money in the pocket of a madman whos sole ambition is total rule of his neighbours, notwithstanding the current sanctions.
