now I know this is prolly not gunna go down too well considering all the troubles we've had lately....
But I notice we have been asked to make suggestions for changes after runuo. A while ago I was very excited about the prospect of the new lands being opened up. It seems to have been forgotten about. Yes firefly quit and gamma is gone...we have hardly any scripters but...the new lands opening was the best idea i have every heard for this shard. Forget arenas, what I would like to see is new monsters, new dungeons. Yes with a small player base maybe it will make PKers dissadvantaged but I think it is a good idea that will expand our player base. I bet that more than one player has quit due to the fact these areas are closed off.
I have no idea how difficult this will be so maybe given the current situation i am out of line, but if it is possible I ask you to consider making it a priority. What about the new city that was made and all the new houses..it seems like such a pity to give up after all that effort.
Who agrees? Who would rather see this done than any of the other suggestions that have been made?
agreed. One of the primary problems with uo in itself not just shard specific is that there are NEVER enough lands to hunt and monsters to beat. If you talk to any long term player and almost all pvpers they will tell you the same. In fact the reason why pvp is so big and there are so many of them is that at some point there is nothing else left to do. The dungeons are owned the monsters are boring the only thing left that is challenging and fun is pvping. And dont say it will disadvantage the pvpers. I am almost certain that even they would agree on this as they would be looking forward to exploring hunting and dominating these new lands just as any rper would. Quite honestly I am a pvper and I think that player held tourny system is kinda stupid. Without gm prizes a player held tourny is just like any other pvping done in normal day to day. Sorta like the fight clubs that people try to start on shards. There will be no overriding desire for a player to participate in it when all they will win is some gold and stupid items that they have a dozen of already and more gold than they can spend. The event aspect of it however i think is pretty cool but still needs some tweaking on the brainstorming stage of it. Anyways the founding aspects of making this game engrossing to players are as follows. 1) New areas and monsters with appropriate loot templates to encourage and entertain hunters and tamers. 2) Less npcs selling things in the cities such as furniture and houses. Make them craftable by players. THis will give purpose to a crafters creation and provide the drive to do so to a player base. 3) Umm Im sorry but I just lost my train of thought lol. Ill come back to this post again when my mind decides to return to me.
I want to stress that I am not making any judgements on the ideas put forward as many of them are good including the arena if done right (eg: the set up price should be large, and the prize should not be the gold itself but something similar to a treasure chest where certain things are always there and there is a random chance of other items appearing, the money is spent and depending on how much you invest reflects the types and amounts of rares that spawn in the final prize. Similar to levels in t -maps).
So im not saying they are bad ideas just that id like to see the new lands first as like valkr and I have said it will benifit the shard in a greater degree

While I cannot give you an 'Offical' reply, we are concentrating on sorting out RUNUO before the newlands, the reason for this is that the new things to try out vastly outnumber that of just giving you new spawn areas - The 2nd Age has very few dungeons in it btw, most monsters are above ground.
Fact is when we finished tweaking runuo, all the dungeons are going to be a challenge again, RunUO monsters are ALOT tougher, and with better ai. Things like balrons teleporting onto you to gank you will keep you on your toes, the monsters are balanced and not fluffed up like it is on loth atm. So be patient.
The current loth setup IMHO is the old batch of GM's shard most of which we aint seen in ages or have been kicked off the staff by wireplay, basically the new GM's were left with one or two scripts and a very buggy shard (in comparason to runuo), It's time to Up the Ante and take the Game to a new level, and make the shard alot more fun AND challenging than it currently is.
In Reality we shouldnt have let it get out about runuo, then it would have been a nice surprise, instead of everyone complaining about it not being done yet :)
So Just be patient and let us set it up :D
well truth is there is plenty of buggy scripts which came about as a result of the whole wireplay ftp access after the shard got whiped. people that didnt have a clue what they were doing were uploading files into wrong dirs and some things excisted up to 5 times on the server which was causing the 'script unloading' that everyone talked about, in the whole 6 or so months i was here as 'admin' i never once had acceptable access to the ftp server and the box itself to 'patch things up' as much as everyone wanted, what jock is doing should hopefully be a new start of sorts where all the things that were allowed to build up and up in the past hopefully wont happen again.
im sure most of you are aware of the issue with the arrows and dsb... truth about that is its a very simple fix, and it was fixed last summer yet for reasons i stated above people where still able to do it from time to time (all the time now? im not sure what state the files are in now) due to wireplays ownership at the times inability to appreciate what is really needed to run a UO server.
but as for you saying you were left with 'one or two scripts' not really sure what you mean by that, i know that myself and firefly have spent many hours scripting many different and varied scripts for this shard that you wont find anywhere else, something that work seemed to stop on when i left.
and the point about people being kicked of the staff by wireplay, not really sure who you are referring to there either, i could go into detail on things which are a complete negative image of what you have said there but ill just leave it.
anyway, the main body of what Dr. Evil said i completly agree with, the transfer to runuo being the primary aim and those points mentioned coming secondary.
gamma i've got the dupe script fix and i know it will work, but i am thinking there is another script somewhere that is different with the same ids thats over riding it so it wont work, plus the only person here even slightly capable of scripting isn't allowed the scripts to take a look for the problem, i have about 5 or 6 scripts here to fix some bugs/improve things that wuld take about 10 minutes to sort out with the scripts, but i can't and i aint wasting hours trying to figure out how you have ordered the scripts and find scripts within scripts so bassicly there no point in doing it sadly....

yea i know, thats one of the things i was trying to say in my post.. there _is_ multiple scripts on the server with the same item ids and thats why the arrow problem excists.
but it wasnt me or firefly that let things get into that state, if you had seen the mess of it 4 or 5 months ago it was terrible.
when the move is made to runuo i personally think it would be best not to take any items over, just chars with stats and skills. as these wont have been exploited anywhere near as much as alot of the items (and gold) that people got gathered up through the mess of the ftp. i know alot of people wont like that as they would have spent alot of time getting items properly but it would def. be best in the long run.

transfering to runuo is def a first priority, all i was saying is that instead of working on the ideas posted on that thread prehaps creating the new lands would be of greater benefit.
And yes loosing all my items would be a tradgedy..but if gold re-embersement was offered after the trade I would be happy
The fact is some players have abused bugs to get themselves loads of cash, which is a problem, and so to cancel allo the bug abusers out togetgher, gamma suggested a total item nuke.
However, this is not the way to go - as we would be doing the same as deusovis - which is going to lose a hefty chunk of its own playerbase because it is dong the same (total item nuke on conversion to do3). But the do admins are evil nazis with the iq of 8, so they do things like that anyway.
I don't think loth should follow suit. I think at least some items should be replaced, if not all.
