View Full Version : how about some TaX
The problem every shard encounters is the fact that gold starts to pile up and inflation can begin.
Some people have millions and millions of gold, castles around every corner (as a mather of speech).
One way to make more gold disappear from the game is to implement taxes. Since we are switching to Runuo, people should be able to script it.
Only people with houses have to pay taxes, lets say weekly.
The bigger the house, the more taxes you need to pay.
Owning more houses means more taxes. (more people will keep one house = less items = less lag)
Also a guild should pay taxes, the more members you have, the more taxes you need to pay.
Well, of course this is just an idea, plz tell me what you guys think of it.
(I don't know if it is scriptable or not)
yea both are scriptable, i think its a good idea although ive a feeling most people would feel different.
Well then, perhaps we could do a little poll.
I think its a pretty good idea but will the people get anything for there tax dollars? Especially guilds?
Ok, sure, but if im payin tax dollars I want new stuff :E
I want the taxes to supply me something! :D
I want new items! I want special quests! :)
I want the game to be more interesting! I want new items implemented into the game! I want a unique shard!
Oh wait, nm, thats all coming with runUO ;)
Well, I feel 50-50 for the taxes, cus noone likes taxes, and if it takes me 5 months to save up for a castle, I want to be able to keep it, not find out it costs 1 mil a month to have!
the taxes is a pwnage idea and has worked fine in other shards, the probability that you would get something is little too no chance, TAX is meant to go on improving fire services and health care etc. so we might be able to script something along those lines, ie. houses can spontaniously combust and burn the colour out of items or something, and if you pay more taxes its less likely too happen ;) or... the guild thing is a good idea, i wuld say there should be a "one ticket fits all" kind of thing going on here, ie. pvp reward tickets can be used for anything like that, i.e. you get 20 pvp reward tickets and you get a customised and renamed guild banner, 50 tickets, a renamed guild robe will apear for you on your guild gump etc. :)
probably a better idea than just having money disapear for no real purpose would be to have players interact with the npc shopkeepers more - like so:
make some kind of equipment for crafters that only npc vendors can supply. The cost of this equipment would be based on the mastery of the crafter. This way the wares they create with the equipment would be directly related to how much their equipment costs to buy. This equipment would have to wear out and stuff for it to work.
So the crafters raise the price of their goods depending on the quality of those goods, and the adventurers pay steeper prices for their gear based again on quality. So adventurers fighting dragons are going to need some pretty expensive gear, while the newb warrior needs much less.
This way money would come into the system via monsters and the small amount the npcs will pay for wares, and the money would leave via crafter tools and houses, etc.
an example for miners might be that for higher and higher grades of ore, a better tool is needed to smelt the ore. This tool would have a limited amount of uses.
Well, I do like that idea also.
Either way is a good way to get rid of money.
But I wouldn't say the money disappears for nothing, the money is used to be able to keep your house.:P
The problem with the tax is that what if someone doesnt play as much for say a month, his things will deteriorate just because he's not playing as much. That sucks. But if he stops crafting for awhile, his money sink stops as well since he's not buying the crafter tools. This way the money sink is more directly connected with the player in that he won't be paying while he's not playing. Woot! Catch phrase. LOL
Besides, taxes won't do anything for the market. Tool prices will give gms better control over the gold supply kind of like a monetary policy. LOL
GM Allan Greenspan!
The automatic tax thing won't work because people will just turn their gold into ingots or some other non-regulated currency.
No no, tax won't be on the amount of money you have, only on the house(s) you have,
It's true taht if you won't play for a month, you have a problem, lets just say you have to pay the taxes withing 4 months or so
Anyway, your idea is also very nice, but perhaps more difficult to script.
All I am trying to say is, lets make a good money sink
