I use the Fraunhofer MP3 (professional) codec for a lot of audio stuff on my computer, but Freelancer isn't really happy with the idea, so if anybody else wants to know how to use both this is what you do:

[list=1]
Uninstall Freelancer
Uninstall/remove any other MP3 codecs (including Fraunhofer)
Search your %SYSTEMROOT% dir for "l3codec?.acm" where ? = a or p
Delete the above.
With Regedit go to: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
Delete the keys "msacm.l3codec" and "msacm.l3acm".
Install, from your Freelancer CD: <cdrom>:\REDIST\WMFDIST.EXE
Install Freelancer.
Install the Fraunhofer MP3 codec
In the above registry branch create a string key called "msacm.l3codec" with the value of "l3codecp.acm" insuring the key "msacm.l3acm" has the value "l3codeca.acm".
Control Panel > Sounds > Hardware > Audio Codecs > Properties
Find the Fraunhofer Pro codec and set it to lowest priority.
Ensure the l3codeca.acm codec is listed above (it probably won't be named).
