Cannot Connect

I can't connect to Lothlorien. It locks up at the "Creating Character" screen.

The instructions on the Lothlorien site are kind of lacking. There is no step-by-step for getting Lothlorien up an running.

I've played independent shards before, but they were always UOX shards and required using Ignition or UORice for decryption. Does Lothlorien not need this for some reason?

right... first sign up for an acc. and wait for them to email... you can do this b4 or after or w/e but download all the downloads you can on the lothlorien download page... except the client if you dont need it... extract them into yer uo folder... and you should be fine... i dun see why thats so hard :E

I guess I should have made it clear that I've done all that. There are _some_ instructions on the Lothlorien page, they're just in 2 or 3 different places.

* I have an account (If I did not, I could never get to the "Creating Character..." screen).
* I have all of the Lothlorien files unzipped into my UO directory.
* I have the client from the Lothlorien downloads section unzipped over client.exe in my UO directory.

It still doesn't work. I have taken my firewall router out of the loop completely, so it's not anything to do with that.

I have uninstalled / reinstalled UO at least twice. I have double-checked all of the Lothlorien files are in my UO directory.

I choose "Britain" as the city to start in, I get "Creating Character..." and that's it. It never logs me into the world.

I agree, it should not be so difficult.

One other question: the downloads page says "the UOAssist required to play on Lothlorien". Is UOAssist required? Or doest that just mean it is required that you use this version of UOAssist if you want to use UOAssist with Lothlorien (and usage of UOAssist is optional)?

I had the same problems when entering the shard.

From the beginning: you have to use the client provided in Lothlorien site to connect. Once you try to create a character, choose "custom character", and try selecting another city to start the game. If the game locks again, try another city, and so on, until your character is created. In fact, this won't affect your character, because when you enter Lothlorien, you are taken to a newbie town, when all your attributes are raised to 50, you can choose a skill to start with 50% and choose which city you will effectively start in.

About your other question: no, it is not required UOAssist to play in this shard. Your assumption (about what the meaning of what is in the site) is correct.

That got me in the first try. I only did two things differently:

a) I chose "Custom Character". I think I had been hitting Warrior before and changing my stats from there.

b) I chose "Yew" as the starting city.

It might be helpful if that were in a FAQ somewhere... I'd have a day of character development in already.
